Many of the thousands of migrants waiting to claim asylum are realizing their dream to live in America may be a tougher road than they imagined, especially following Sunday’s clash at the border, involving a group of migrants and U.S. officials.Conditions are horrid in one camp in the border city of Tijuana, Mexico, where people have been living in tents for weeks in a lot that once was a baseball complex. Many of them dream of starting a new live in the U.S., but those dreams are fading.Maria Elena Reyes waited in line for hours, hoping a volunteer may have a clean shirt. For her, these living conditions, and even the month-long journey from Honduras, all seemed worth it to get to the border. But that’s when she says she had hope of finding asylum in America.“To look for a better life, to help my grandchildren who are in Honduras and my daughters, and for myself,” Reyes says. But like others at the camp, her optimism seems to fade with each passing day in the tent city, especially after what happened Sunday, when U.S. border agents used tear gas on a group of migrants.“I would say after that incident, which was really bad, a lot of doors closed,” Reyes says.Already worn out from the long journey, many of these migrants are now fearful of the US, scared of what could happen at the border, even if they apply for asylum the legal way.Sarahi Nunes and her 3-year-old daughter, Genesis, thought getting into the US would be easier, but knowing there’s a months-long wait just for an official asylum appointment, makes her doubt whether she'll ever obtain her American dream.“Yes, at first, that was the plan,” Nunes says. “But now, I see how difficult it is for people asking for asylum.” She's already started the process of applying for a work visa to stay here, in Mexico. She says living in Mexico would still be a step up from her life in Honduras.Reyes is also hopeful she could find a job in Mexico, but she says if she doesn't in the next week, she will go back to Honduras.“It was a very hard battle to get here,” Reyes says. “I would not like to go back empty-handed.”  Reyes says she doesn’t want to give up, but knowing if she does return home, that’s what it will feel like. 2222

MALIBU (CNS) - Supermodel Bella Hadid has donated ,000 toward fighting mud slides in Malibu expected as a result of the still-burning Woolsey Fire, it was reported Thursday.Hadid, 22, donated the money to the Malibu Disaster Prevention & Relief Fund, the celebrity news website TMZ.com reported. The GoFundMe page is spearheaded by the Point Dume Bomberos (firefighters), who need the money to pack sandbags, buy pool pumps, generators, respirators, cleanup materials and other tools.Rain could arrive sometime next week and fire officials have said fast-moving mudslides -- possibly like the catastrophic one in Montecito earlier this year -- could be powerful enough to bring down trees and tons of other debris. Hadid lost her Montecito home in January from devastating floods and has seen the area where she was raised -- Malibu -- decimated.Bella's not the only celebrity pitching in to help Malibu get back onits feet, TMZ reported. Patton Oswalt donated ,000 to rebuild a horse ranch that burned down. Jon Favreau kicked in ,000 to another Woolsey Fire relief fund and Sean Astin donated ,000 to a similar cause.Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth have donated 0,000 to The Malibu Foundation through Cyrus' charity, Happy Hippie, a representative told CNN. The funds will be used for ``those in financial need, emergency relief assistance, community rebuilding, wildfire prevention and climate change resilience," according to a statement.Hemsworth on Tuesday posted a photo of the remains of the home he shared with Cyrus. Other celebrities who lost homes in California's fires are Neil Young, Robin Thicke and Gerard Butler. 1652

Michael Cohen said in court Wednesday that he had been living in a "personal and mental incarceration" under President Donald Trump and that his prison sentence would, ironically, help him get back his freedom. That's particularly true if he goes to a certain minimum-security prison not far from the city.In federal court on Wednesday, US District Judge William Pauley agreed to recommend that Cohen serve his 36-month prison sentence at FCI Otisville, about 70 miles northwest of New York City.FCI Otisville has sometimes been viewed as a preferable prison option for inmates convicted of white-collar crimes. In 2009, Forbes named it one of "America's 10 cushiest prisons."Despite the judge's recommendation, the decision as to where Cohen will spend time is ultimately up to the Bureau of Prisons, which has sole responsibility for determining where offenders spend their prison sentences. The decisions are made at the Designation and Sentence Computation Center in Texas. The DSCC attempts to send inmates to prisons within a 500-mile radius of their residence, which for Cohen is in New York. However, the decision also is made using a series of criteria, such as security needs, medical needs, availability of counseling services, and bed space.Bureau of Prison data shows the bureau complies with 74% of judicial recommendations, wholly or in part, according to an analysis of the DSCC published in Criminal Justice magazine in 2016.  1454

MIAMI, Fla. – Norwegian Cruise Line announced Tuesday that it would be keeping its ships docked even longer amid ongoing COVID-19 concerns. The cruise line said it’s extending the suspension of its 2020 cruises to include all sailing through August 31, all sailing in September except Seattle-based Alaska Cruises, and select October sailing. The select October cruises include two trips to Alaska, as well as two trips to Canada and New England. The company is offering guests who had an active reservation on a suspended cruise a refund of their cruise fare in the form of a future cruise credit (FCC) for 125% of the amount paid to date on June 25.The FCC must be used one year from the date issued for any Norwegian Cruise Line voyage embarking through 2022, according to the company.Norwegian says guests who prefer to not take advantage of an FCC can elect to receive a lesser refund equal to the amount paid to date to the original form of payment 90 days after form submission for sailings originally scheduled to embark anytime from July 1 onward. For suspended cruises that were set to embark between July 1 and July 31, this form must be submitted not later than 11:59 p.m. ET on June 19, 2020.
