VENTURA, Calif. (AP) — A study shows California’s stay-at-home order in response to the coronavirus outbreak seems to have saved some wildlife, as decreased traffic resulted in fewer collisions with mountain lions, deer and other large animals. The Ventura County Star reports a study by the Road Ecology Center at the University of California, Davis found traffic declined by about 75% after the emergency order went into effect in March. The number of animals struck and killed by vehicles also fell, including a 58% decrease in fatal crashes involving mountain lions between the 10 weeks before and 10 weeks after the order. 635

VENICE, Florida — Six dolphins were found dead on beaches in Sarasota County in the past 24 hours."The fact that it's starting to impact our dolphins makes us even more nervous about what's to come," said Rebeccah Hazelkorn, senior biologist at Mote Marine. Venice Police Marine Patrol found two deceased dolphins on Tuesday, another two on Wednesday around 8 a.m. and then two more around 2:30 p.m. "Dolphins are much faster-moving animals. They have been able to detect it and swim out of it. Turtles are actually pretty good at detecting red tide and avoiding it. It's just where the animals are going and how bad the bloom is and how fast it gets into their system," said Hazelkorn. Mote Marine Aquarium's Stranding Investigations Program says it recovered those dolphins. Those deceased dolphins were discovered in several locations in Sarasota County including one found in the Intracoastal Waterway near Snake Island in Venice and another located on Caspersen Beach. We spoke with neighbors who found two of the dolphins stranded on Casey Key in Nokomis. "Its fin was up. I didn't know whether or not it was a shark or even a small whale. As I got closer, I realized it was a dolphin," said resident Jeanne May.The aquarium says three of the dolphins are males, the other three are females.Mote staff will conduct necropsies on the animals in Sarasota to investigate what happened to them. They were all reportedly found moderately to severely decomposed, which makes it difficult to examine and collect samples for analysis.Mote did not say whether or not red tide played a role in their deaths, but it has been impacting marine life on the Florida Gulf Coast this summer. 1757

Turns out all that pink at Kim Kardashian West's baby shower was a major hint. The reality TV star and her husband, rapper Kanye West, are expecting their third child via a surrogate.Kardashian West revealed to Ellen DeGeneres on her talk show Wednesday that the new baby is a girl and her 4-year-old daughter, North, is excited. "We had a baby shower over the weekend, and I thought, you know, I really do want to have a baby shower because I want (North) to feel that something's coming and for her to really understand it," Kardashian West said."People brought toys and gifts, and (North) was opening them all up the next day and she goes, 'Mom, since baby sister's not here, I think I need all of her toys in my room and play with them and make sure they're all OK for baby sister.' "The cosmetics mogul said they don't have a name yet for the new baby who will also join brother Saint. He turns 2 in December.Despite playing a game at the shower where she had guests write names on tiles to "see if there is something that sticks," Kardashian West admitted she and her husband are freaking out a bit that they haven't picked one."It's so hard," she said. "I do like different names, but short, easy to spell, one syllable. That's kind of my vibe." 1268
