Attorneys for Noor Salman are calling for a dismissal of charges or a mistrial after they say new details from prosecutors reveal that Pulse gunman Omar Mateen's father was an FBI informant who is currently under a criminal investigation.According to a motion filed by the defense, Assistant US Attorney Sara Sweeney sent an email on Saturday to the defense -- in the middle of Salman's trial -- that stated Seddique Mateen was a confidential FBI source from 2005 through June 2016.The email also stated that Seddique Mateen is being investigated for money transfers to Turkey and Pakistan after documents were found in his home on the day of the Pulse attack. 668

ATLANTA (AP) — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has completed its probe into the shooting death of Rayshard Brooks, more than three months after the Black man was fatally shot by a white officer outside a fast-food restaurant in Atlanta.Agency spokesperson Nelly Miles confirmed to E.W. Scripps in an email that the findings from the investigation were turned over to Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard on Monday.Miles told E.W. Scripps in an email that the case file is not available for release at this time.Howard has already charged two officers involved in the June 12 incident.Former Atlanta police officer Garrett Rolfe and officer Devin Brosnan arrived at a Wendy's because Brooks' vehicle was parked in the drive. He was asleep at the wheel, which surveillance video and footage from police body and dashboard cameras show. After a brief discussion, the officers submitted Brooks to a field sobriety test, which he failed.According to officials, Brooks offered to lock his parked car and walk home, but the officers informed him he was under arrest. A struggle ensued, Brooks tried to flee the scene after grabbing Brosnan's stun gun. Rolfe then shot Brooks in the back when Brooks pointed the stun gun in Rolfe's direction. On June 17, Rolfe was charged with felony murder and 10 other crimes, including four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and several violations of his oath of office.Brosnan was placed on administrative duty and is currently free on a ,000 signature bond, CNN reported. Brosnan faces charges of aggravated assault and violations of oath of office. In July, Rolfe was released from jail after posting a 0,000 bond. Brosnan faces charges of aggravated assault and violations of oath of office.Brooks' death sparked renewed demonstrations in Atlanta after turbulent protests following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis in May. 1901

ATLANTA -- Senator Lindsey Graham said Tuesday he has spoken with election officials in a number of battleground states about their ballot counting procedures.Georgia’s secretary of state said that U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham asked him whether he had the power to reject certain absentee ballots. Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger told The Washington Post he interpreted the question as a suggestion that he toss out legally cast ballots.Raffensperger said Graham asked him whether political bias might have caused election workers to accept ballots that might have been discarded for non-matching signatures. An accusation that there has been no evidence to suggest.Graham on Monday said that was “ridiculous.” He said he was trying to find out how signature verification for absentee ballots works in Georgia.Raffensperger, also a Republican, has been criticized by President Donald Trump and other fellow Republicans over his handling of the election and said he’s received death threats. He has rigorously defended the integrity of Georgia’s election results.Graham told reporters in D.C. Tuesday he also talked with officials in Arizona and Nevada, specifically to ask them questions about the process for validating signatures on ballots.President-elect Joe Biden is projected to win both Arizona and Nevada, and holds a 13,000 vote lead in Georgia as they finish up a recount. The Trump campaign issued a statement Tuesday afternoon that seemed to support Graham’s line of questioning, without providing evidence.“Georgia officials must continue with their recount efforts to ensure that the American people know the true outcome of the 2020 presidential election, and the Georgia recount must include a thorough matching of signatures,” the statement reads. When Sen. Graham was asked why he was making these calls, he responded he is a “United States senator who is worried about the integrity of the election process nationally, when it comes to vote by mail.” 1977

Authorities in India have decided to hold off retrieving the body of the American national feared killed on North Sentinel Island amid concerns about a possible confrontation with the tribe that lives there.John Allen Chau is believed to have been killed by Sentinelese tribespeople after he visited their island home in the Andaman and Nicobar archipelago in November, breaching local laws strictly prohibiting contact with the isolated people.Indian police say Chau found local fishermen who agreed to take him near the island, before using a canoe the rest of the way. Days later, the fishermen -- who have since been arrested for facilitating his trip -- say they saw the tribespeople dragging his body around the island."We want to avoid direct confrontation with the tribespeople," Dependra Pathak, director general of police of the Andaman and Nicobar islands, told CNN when asked about the latest efforts to retrieve Chau's body. "We do not want to go there and create an unhappy situation."The decision to avoid a direct confrontation with the isolated tribe came after a series of meetings and reconnaissance trips made by the officials. Anthropologists and tribal experts were also consulted.By Sunday, authorities had mapped out the area with the help of the fishermen and observed several members of the tribe walking around the area where eyewitnesses claim to have seen Chau's body dragged and buried. However, despite ruling out any immediate attempts to land on the island, local police would not categorically rule out retrieving the body at a future date. "We are working on it. We'll firm up a plan very soon," said Pathak. 1650
