The next few weeks mark the beginning of serious financial uncertainty for millions of people, because a slew of debt, from income tax payments to several months of rent, are going to be due at the same time. “It is going to be a perfect storm of financial difficulty for many, many people,” said Andrea Bopp Stark, an attorney at the National Consumer Law Center (NCLC).The center recommends three steps for anyone that finds themselves in a financially difficult situation regarding debt.Step one: create a list of priority bills and debt to pay off. “People are going to be barraged with debt collectors calling and trying to get them to pay on a medical debt or a credit card debt, but those debts are less important,” said Stark. “Pay debts that if you didn’t pay them it would cause immediate harm to your family.”Those are things like your rent and a car payment, especially if you need your car to go to work.“If you have a judgment against you, a court judgment against you for a debt, it is important to try and make a payment plan to pay that because creditor could issue a garnishment against your wages,” Stark added. Step two: contact your lender to make a payment plan on those priority debts.“We are seeing data come in that there are people who are delinquent and don’t have a forbearance agreement when they could very easily be in a forbearance agreement,” Stark added. “I know wait times on the phone are horrible right now, but you have to be persistent and get through and find out what help is available.”Data collected by the U.S. Census shows that delinquency rates are higher in communities of color.“It is mostly Black and Latinx borrowers who are not getting these forbearance agreements,” said Stark. “Whether they don’t know about it or nobody is reaching out to them to let them know this is available, we don’t know why but that is a population that is going to be disparately impacted and has already been disparately impacted by this whole crisis.”Step three: find a way to stick to your prioritized debt list. “It may sound obvious but if you have it on paper and you have created a budget, stick that to the refrigerator or wherever, then you know these are the priority spending items,” said Stark. “If your son or daughter say, ‘Oh, I want this or that,' ‘no, look at the fridge these are our priority spending items, sorry.’” Because every situation may not be solved in three steps, the NCLC has now made its in-depth guide to Surviving Debt available for free. The Idaho Lottery launched what’s being billed as “a first of its kind” Scratch Game Wednesday, by introducing a clear plastic scratch ticket. The new game, called “Cash Getaway,” is 100% recyclable, Lottery officials said. “The Idaho Lottery has a long history of being on the forefront of cutting-edge technology,” said Lottery Director Jeff Anderson. “Idaho is a unique geographic marketplace that is ideal for trying new products and new innovations that will eventually lead to introduction in other jurisdictions around the country.”Players can actually see through the ticket. In the clear play game, located on the top half of the ticket, players scratch and reveal a unique code for use with their mobile device or PC.  The bottom half of the ticket plays like a traditional Scratch ticket.  Players without access to a mobile device or a computer can still play the new game. Each ticket features the Lottery’s security bar code which may be scanned at retail locations to collect their winnings. The new game will be available in retail stores throughout Idaho by the end of the week, Anderson added.  The new five-dollar game also features two top prizes of ,000 –- awarded either in cash payment or as a luxurious “vacation of a lifetime." So, if you made less money, you could see more of that,” said Lisa Greene-Lewis, CPA and tax expert at TurboTax.Questions on stimulus payments will also be part of your tax return. That money is not taxable.If you got too much, you do not have to pay it back. But if you didn't get the amount that you're eligible for, you can get it as a recovery tax rebate.While working from home, some people stayed in other states. That could potentially put you on the hook for two state tax returns, depending on how long you stayed there.Because of the 2017 tax law, deductions for working from home will mostly only apply to those who are self-employed.Self-employed workers could also be eligible for new credits. The jurors who convicted James Fields of murder could soon decide whether they think he should spend the rest of his life behind bars.Fields, 21, was attending last year's "Unite the Right" rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, when counterprotesters demonstrated against the white nationalists. That afternoon, Fields got in his Dodge Challenger and plowed into the counterprotesters at about 28 mph, killing 32-year-old Heather Heyer.The Charlottesville jury found Fields guilty of first-degree murder Friday. Fields was also found guilty of eight counts of malicious wounding and one count of failing to stop at an accident involving a death.On Monday, jurors will begin the sentencing phase of Fields' trial. Ultimately, Judge Richard Moore will decide Fields' sentence, but will consider the jury's recommendation.Jurors are expected to hear victim impact statements, possibly from Heyer's family or surviving victims from the August 2017 attack.Heyer, a 32-year-old paralegal, was devoted to helping people and had a passion for justice, her family said.Heyer's friend Marissa Blair attended the counterprotest with her and said Heyer fought against bigotry."If you knew Heather, you would know that she loves everyone and all she wants is equality for everyone, no matter who you love, no matter what color you are," Blair said.It's not clear when the judge will formally sentence Fields for the murder of Heyer.But in addition to the state charges, Fields also faces 30 federal hate crimes charges.
