ERLANGER, Ky. -- Police shot a suspect outside a bar in Erlanger, Kentucky on Wednesday night after the suspect pointed a gun at the officers, according to Kentucky State Police trooper Charles Loudermilk.Loudermilk said two officers from the Erlanger Police Department had been pursuing 40-year-old Dexter Helton, of Florence, over an active felony drug warrant and located him inside Peecox Bar and Grill at about 8 p.m. He fled on foot out the back door of the bar, drew a firearm and pointed it at the officers, at which point an officer shot him. "This action caused a life threatening situation for the officers involved and they were forced to discharge their firearms," Kentucky State Police said in a news release. Helton was airlifted to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center with "critical injuries" after the incident. Neither of the Erlanger officers were shot or injured. Identities of the police officers involved have not yet been released. Investigators are reviewing footage from the officer's body cameras. Authorities also seized a witness's phone who had posted a video of the moments after the shooting on Facebook. Surveillance video from the bar will also be analyzed, Loudermilk said. Kentucky State Police will investigate the shooting, Loudermilk said.  1359

(KGTV) - A pride flag is now flying outside Encinitas City Hall, overlooking the city's downtown area.The Encinitas City Council voted 4-0 Wednesday to hoist the flag to commemorate Pride month. The action comes after the Trump administration denied U.S. Embassy requests to hoist the flag, saying government buidlings should only fly the American flag. At the meeting Wednesday, councilmembers said they wanted to show the city as inclusive and welcoming. They added they want to push back against a recent uptick in hate crimes against the LGBTQ commumity - and potential rollbacks of federal protections for them in the military, workplace, and health care."I think it's critically important that we stand up and celebrate," said Joe Mosca, the city council's first openly gay member. "We celebrate the advancements that have been made and we're ready to fight for the future, and make sure that advancements that have been made haven't been rolled back."Lisa Nava, a 30-year Encinitas resident and LGBTQ advocate, watched the Pride flag go up in memory of her brother David, who died of AIDS in the 1980s."It was actually the first time i ever saw true love, between him and his partner, and I believed in my core being that there was no reason two people couldn't love each other and be out in the world loving each other," she said. Elizabeth Holmes, a Silicon Valley businesswoman whose biotech company Theranos was once valued at billion, will reportedly attempt to claim “mental disease” in her criminal trial, according to multiple reports.Court filings released this week indicate Holmes’ lawyers want to introduce evidence “relating to a mental disease or defect or any other mental condition of the defendant bearing on the issue of guilt.” However, details of what exactly her mental state is, or what the lawyers intend to argue are redacted.Holmes founded Theranos as a Stanford drop-out at age 19. She, and her former romantic partner and Theranos president Sunny Balwani, face fraud charges for claiming their company’s machines could perform several diagnostic tests with just a single drop of blood.The prosecution says the pair knew all along the technology wasn’t capable of doing the tests as promised, and allegedly defrauded investors, doctors and patients. They were charged in 2018 and could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.Holmes’ attorneys plan to introduce testimony from Mindy Mechanic, according to the filing, a psychology professor at California State University Fullerton.The university’s website lists Mechanic’s focus as “the mental health consequences of violence, such as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and depression as well as other important physical and social health outcomes” and that she also provides expert testimony in “complex legal cases involving interpersonal violence.”The judge is allowing the prosecution to conduct their own examination of Holmes, to gather any needed evidence.Holmes’ case is expected to begin in March 2021. 1666

ESCONDIDO (KGTV) - Employees of an Escondido golf course are frustrated and at their breaking point after their boss missed August 3rd's paycheck.UPDATE: Business owner paid employees missed and upcoming paycheck.Employes of the?Castle Creek Golf Course & Country Club said they heard their boss had a stroke on the first of the month and that was what caused the pay to be late. Employees were too afraid to speak on camera but said it wasn't the first time payment has been delayed.Golfers also said they've seen the course deteriorate since Osama Alkasabi took ownership in October.An employee said several people have already quit and some have their final day on the job this week.Alkasabi also owns two OAAI gas stations. Employees there vehemently defended Alkasabi but confirmed they hadn't been paid either. Employees there said Alkasabi had heart surgery."They missed only one, and that wasn't intentional," Alkasabi said over the phone. He blamed the delay on a car accident. "My car landed over the curb, and I arrived at the hospital here and had head surgery to make sure there is no bleeding, no fracture or damage," he said that happened August 1 off SR-78 near the Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside.10News spoke with Oceanside Police and California Highway Patrol and neither have records of a crash in that area for the entire week.Alkasabi's gas stations are running out of gas. The permits must be renewed annually, and employees say Alkasabi has owned the stations for at least four years.Alkasabi made this promise to all his employees, "receive the check tomorrow by 1:15 p.m. for all three periods, although there is one period missing. So we're making a cushion for the next two weeks."He promised along with three paychecks, one for the missed cycle, one for this week and one in advanced, that he'll give each employee a 0 bonus.He also promised several improvements to the golf course and that gas will be available at his pumps soon. 2427
