With the advancement of technology, it’s rare to pay for things using cash. We use our cards, phones and the internet to pay for what we need. Now, more churches are turning to digital donations to collect their tithes and offerings.St. Andrew United Methodist Church in Denver, Colorado is one church already going digital.Judy Cox, a churchgoer and volunteer at St. Andrew, doesn’t wait until Sunday to give her donations to the church.“It's like all the rest of my bills; I pay them electronically,” explains Cox. “Then that's one huge chore I don't have to think of each month.”Andy Dunning, an executive pastor at St. Andrew, says more than 40 percent of the congregation is giving their offerings regularly online. 728

as part of Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel's ongoing investigation into clergy abuse within the Catholic Church.Father Joseph "Jack" Baker was arrested Monday morning in Wayne County. He was charged with one count of criminal sexual conduct first degree — sexual penetration with a person younger than 13.According to a release, Baker has been a pastor at St. Perpetua Parish in Waterford, Michigan, since 2008. Prior to that, Baker was a pastor at St. Mary Parish in Wayne, associate pastor at Sacred Heart Parish in Dearborn and associate pastor at St. Hugo of the HIlls Parish in Bloomfield Hills. The Archdiocese of Detroit reported a tip to the lead prosecutor on the investigation, resulting in the charge.“This is just the tip of the iceberg,” Nessel said. “Our clergy abuse investigative team is working day and night to review the hundreds of thousands of pages of documents and files seized from all seven of Michigan’s dioceses last fall. At the same time, we continue to receive calls daily from victims who know we will listen to them, believe in them and investigate their allegations. They deserve nothing less than our very best.”Baker’s arrest follows Nessel’s May 24 announcement that five former priests had been charged with 21 counts of criminal sexual conduct. The men, who were all priests when the reported crimes were committed, are:? Timothy Michael Crowley, charged in Washtenaw County with four felony counts of CSC 1 and four felony counts of CSC 2. and is warning others to keep them from falling for the same scam.Paula, a Florida resident, said she lost more than ,000 after calling an Amazon customer service number she found on a Google search. But the person on the other end of the line turned out to be an imposter and didn’t work for Amazon at all.Paula said the imposter helped her get back into her Amazon account but also told her she needed to verify her identity by going through the steps to purchase ,000 in Amazon gift cards. She suspects the imposter hacked her account to access the gift cards.“Nothing is getting charged to your account this is for verification on our side,” Paula said the imposter told her.WFTS called the same number as Paula. The man who answered would not say where he was located or give the name of his business. An Amazon spokesman said in an email, “We monitor for suspicious activity, including gift card activity, and work with law enforcement and consumer protection agencies to investigate and take action on bad actors… A member of our team has reached out to the customer to get additional information.”Paula said she understands her money is long gone but hopes by sharing her story others won’t make the same costly mistake.Experts say you can avoid falling for one of these scams by always using a company’s official website to find a customer service number — and avoid searching for contact information on Google and other search engines. This story was originally published by 1488
