SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- With the rainy season ahead, the City of San Diego is offering ways for residents to save money on their water bills by removing lawns and installing rain barrels. The City is offering .25 per square foot for lawns that are converted to turf that can capture rainfall for reuse. Homeowners that convert their lawn into drought resistant landscape can apply for financial rebates.Customers may receive  per gallon of barrel storage capacity for residential rainwater collecting up to 400 gallons or 0 per property. Rain barrels are a great way to conserve water and reuse for irrigation purposes as well as preventing pollution, according to city officials. Applications are available for Rainwater Harvest, to apply click here. For more information on the types of rebates and water conservation tips visit the City's website. 949

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A lawyer for the man who styled the hair of U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says he believes she was set up when she went to a San Francisco salon that wasn't permitted to have indoor services because of the coronavirus pandemic. Pelosi is facing backlash after Fox News Channel aired footage showing the speaker walking through the salon without a mask on. But a lawyer for the stylist says the owner gave permission for the appointment and made “vitriolic and incendiary comments" about Pelosi. SAN DIEGO (KGTV, CNS) - San Diego police were searching today for men believed to have stolen cell phones and a set of keys from three San Diego State students near campus, a university official said.The robbery happened Friday shortly before 12:30 a.m. in the 5600 block of Mary Lane Drive and Dorothy Drive.Police reported three phones and a set of keys were taken from three SDSU students. One of the students was taken to a hospital for further medical treatment. SAN DIEGO (KGTV): A new study from the San Diego Military Advisory Council says the military industry in the area is the top economic driver.The SDMAC's "Military Economic Impact Study" says the armed forces spent billion in San Diego in 2018. That includes compensation for military employees (43%), procurement and other spending like defense contracts (38%) and retirement and veterans' benefits (19%).Additionally, the ripple effect of all that money creates billion worth of San Diego's Gross Regional Product. That's 22% and accounts for more than tourism or tech industries.The military also helps support 340,000 jobs in the county. That's 22% of the jobs across San Diego. It includes members of the Navy, Marines, Coast Guard, Reserves and civilians employed by the DOD, DHS or VA. It's the largest concentration of military employees anywhere in the world.There are also over 241,000 retirees or military veterans in the area, according to the study.Meanwhile, the study says the military's impact should grow in the future. It anticipated 4% growth next year.It could be more in the coming few years. President Trump recently announced a pay raise for military enlistees. He also signed a 7 billion defense budget for 2019, the largest ever. The Navy plans to homeport 20 more ships and approximately 15,000 more sailors to San Diego by 2025. And the Army has listed San Diego as a possible location for it's new "Future Command" post researching emerging technology.But the military faces some challenges in the coming years as well. Housing is a big issue, especially if the Navy wants to expand in San Diego. There are also concerns about the high cost of living in the area. And SDMAC says they're looking for ways to help military spouses find jobs.
