Along with census takers, Li visited Beijing residents on Friday to inspect China's ongoing sixth population census.He also said the census has entered a critical phase, and hoped the 6 million census takers could overcome difficulties and carefully carry out the counting."Only by getting a clear picture of the population could we better plan and provide people with equal public services in education, health-care, housing and pension," Li said.On Monday China began the once-in-a-decade population count, with 6 million census takers going door-to-door during the next 10 days to document demographic changes in the world's most populous country.Statistics from this census will be calculated in December and the main results will be released by the end of April 2011.

BEIJING, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- China will unswervingly promote the policy of reform and opening up, while creating sound environment for foreign companies operating in China, Vice Premier Wang Qishan told senior U.S. officials Monday.Wang exchanged views on China-U.S. ties and economic and trade cooperation with Lawrence Summers, head of U.S. President Barack Obama's National Economic Council, and Deputy National Security Adviser Tom Donilon, in a meeting in Beijing.Wang said the two countries should bolster cooperation in areas such as economy and trade, investment, finance, new energy and infrastructure upgrading, as their economies are interdependent and complimentary to each other.China is ready to work with the United States to well implement consensus reached by state leaders of the two countries, for sustainable, healthy and steady development of bilateral ties, he said.Wang said the international community should enhance cooperation because the world economy, though on the way to recovery, still encounters twists and turns.He said China is focusing on the change of the growth pattern for more balanced development of the economy.Summers and Donilon briefed Wang on the U.S. economy and the Obama administration's measures to stimulate the economy and create jobs.They stressed that the United States and China should strengthen coordination in macro policies and promote cooperation for a strong, balanced and sustainable growth of global economy.Also on Monday, Li Yuanchao, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, met with the two U.S. officials.Li, also head of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, said the Sino-U.S. ties had maintained a stable development since President Obama took office.China would work with the United States to enhance dialogues and cooperation, while properly handling the differences, to push forward the bilateral ties, he said.8 Summers said the United States attached great importance to the U.S.-Sino relations and firmly believed that the two countries had broad interests and faced with common challenges, including sustainable development of global economy, regional security and climate change.He said the United States was committed to working with China for a positive, cooperative and comprehensive relationship in the 21st century.Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi also met with Summers and Donilon on Monday. BEIJING, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao said Tuesday that China and Russia should make joint efforts to achieve common development and combat global challenges.While meeting with Chairman of the Russian Federation Council Sergei Mironov in Beijing, Hu urged the two countries to work for the establishment of a more fair and rational international order.Mironov's visit, which ran from Oct. 17 to 19, was another high-level visit on the heels of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev's three-day state visit to China last month."China is willing to work with Russia to materialize consensuses and tasks agreed to during high-level visits," said Hu.Mironov on Monday co-chaired with China's top legislator Wu Bangguo the fourth meeting of the cooperation committee between China's National People's Congress and the Russian Federation Council, a regular parliamentary exchange mechanism for the benefit of bilateral ties.Hu said China supports the increasing exchanges between legislative bodies of the two countries, hoping the two sides could help publicize the ideas of generational friendship and reciprocal cooperation, push forward pragmatic cooperation in various fields and cooperation on adjacent regions of both countries.Hu also said the two countries should enhance coordination within multilateral mechanisms in a bid to contribute to improved China-Russia strategic partnership of coordination.Echoing Hu's remarks, Mironov said the sound development of Russia-China ties complies with the mutual interests of both countries, adding that Medvedev's successful visit, during which the two countries signed a package of deals and agreements, would have a positive impact on future bilateral cooperation.The Russian Federation Council will play its due role in facilitating bilateral cooperation in such areas as politics, trade and energy so as to make new contributions to the friendship between the two countries, Mironov said.Premier Wen Jiabao also met with Mironov later on Tuesday, and called on the two governments to fully implement consensuses reached by the two sides, inject new vitality into the two countries' modernization process and maintain world peace and stability."The profound changes of the international situation has not only offered precious opportunities but also brought forward higher request for developing China-Russia strategic partnership of coordination," Wen said.

BEIJING, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has urged government officials at all levels to strictly follow the laws and regulations in a bid to steer away from corruption and ensure the good of the public."In a peaceful time, corruption is the greatest danger for a ruling party, and the basic reason for corruption is that powers are not properly supervised and restricted," Wen said Friday during a national meeting on lawful administration.He called it a "major test" for the government to handle graft issues properly.Wen said the task of building a lawful government is the basic guarantee for promoting social fairness and justice, a key measure for anti-corruption and also an essential part for the reform of the country's political system."Currently our country's economic and social development has entered a new phase. More challenges have emerged as domestic and overseas environments become more complicated. We should deepen reform while promoting administration in accordance with the laws in order to solve new problems," he said.According to Wen, a sound market environment with fair competition can only be created when the government uses laws and regulations to manage various market entities, provide services for them and ensure their rights.He urged officials to strengthen legislation in key fields in order to solve deep-seated problems in the economic and social development, and ensure public ideas be fully reflected during the legislation process.Further, Wen called for scientific and democratic decision-making."Before making a major decision, the idea must be examined as to whether it is in accordance with the laws. If it goes beyond the authority of the decision makers or goes against the laws, the idea should be discarded," he said.Wen also called for a transparent and open government work system as long as it doesn't involve state secrets, commercial secrets or individual privacy.He cited key areas that should be open to the public including financial budgets, management of public resources, major construction projects and charities, among others.In addition, Wen urged improving the current administrative supervision system and called on government departments to protect civilians' rights to directly supervise the government and support media exposure on illegal activities and improper behavior by government officials.
