HOHHOT, June 9 (Xinhua) -- China held an anti-terrorism drill Tuesday afternoon to test its police forces' ability to handle a bomb containing radioactive contaminants.     The drill, held in northern Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region's capital Hohhot, kicks off a series of drills in the autonomous region, Shanxi and Hebei provinces that surround Beijing. BEIJING, May 11 (Xinhua) -- China's State Council Monday published a guideline to maintain current agricultural development and promote income for farmers.     The guideline was issued on the Chinese central government's official Web portal www.gov.cn.     It consists of 22 items in eight parts, calling for more efforts to expand domestic demand, promote exports and stabilize grains' prices.     The guideline calls for more support for spring sowing, including pest control, guarding against natural disasters and science and technology services.     It also stresses the importance of granting subsidies to farmers and setting grain prices.

ZHENGZHOU, April 23 (Xinhua) -- Senior Chinese leader Jia Qinglin urged making all-out efforts to ensure economic growth, care for the lives of people and ensure stability during a research trip.     Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, made the call during a visit to central Henan Province from April 17 to 23, where he visited enterprises, urban and rural communities, research agencies and colleges.     There had been positive changes in China's economic development as the central government's macroeconomic policies started to pay off, Jia said. But downward pressure was still great, said Jia, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee. BEIJING, June 27 (Xinhua) -- China always opposes trade protectionism and will not take protectionist actions against overseas companies or foreign goods, Minister of Commerce Chen Deming said here Friday.     He made the remarks when he met the Minister of Knowledge Economy of the Republic of Korea (ROK), Lee Youn Ho.     Chen said that media reports were incorrect when they equated China's latest circular to boost domestic demand and step up supervision on construction projects with protectionism.     Chen said in China's government procurement, the term "domestic products" also include products produced by legally established foreign-funded companies in China.     "China applied to join the World Trade Organization's agreement on government procurement a couple of years ago, which allowed member countries to bid on each other's government tenders." Chen said. "We hope China might join the agreement soon so as to further open up the government procurement market," he said.     "China would like to maintain stable development in economic and trade cooperation with the ROK," Chen said.     Lee said that China's trade policies were fair and transparent, and his country would like to work with China to oppose trade protectionism.

HEFEI, April 21 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu Tuesday urged efforts to fight pine wood nematode disease, which has caused severe damage to pine forests in several provinces.     Strong measures and more funds must be used to curb the spread of the disease, Hui said.     The disease, also known as pine wood cancer, can quickly kill huge numbers of trees. In China, the disease was first detected in1982 in eastern Jiangsu Province.     According to a conference in Huangshan City in eastern Anhui Province held by the State Forestry Administration, the disease has spread to 14 provincial regions, killed more than 5 million mu(333,333 hectare) of pine forests and caused huge losses.     Attendees at the conference agreed measures must be taken to stop the spread of the deadly disease by 2010 and reduce the area of affected forests 60 percent by 2030.
