ATHENS, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao arrived here Saturday, kicking off his three-day official visit to Greece.The Greece visit, the first stop of Wen's four-nation Europe tour, is the first by a Chinese premier in 24 years.During his stay, Premier Wen is due to meet Greek President Karolos Papoulias and Parliament Speaker Philippos Petsalnikos and hold talks with Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou before witnessing the signing of a series of deals. BEIJING, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- China will launch a new round of reform to realize a good governance as the ruling Communist Party of China (CPC) is planning the country's roadmap in the coming five years, scholars and political observers have said.The 17th CPC Central Committee opened its fifth plenary session in Beijing Friday to discuss the 12th five-year program (2011-2015), which will unveil a new round of comprehensive reform, including both economic and political reforms, said Yu Keping, a prominent theorist, in an interview with Xinhua."Only with constant reforms and innovations can China build a good government for good governance," said Yu, who now serves as deputy director of the CPC Central Compilation and Translation Bureau.Yu is well versed in the research of political system. LISBON, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao concluded his state visit to Portugal on Sunday and has left the Portuguese capital of Lisbon for home.The president arrived in Lisbon on Saturday after a three-day state visit to France that began on Thursday.In Lisbon, Hu had talks with Portuguese President Anibal Cavaco Silva and met other Portuguese leaders, exchanging views on how to deepen bilateral pragmatic cooperation. XIAMEN, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- China's outbound direct investment (ODI) rose 1.1 percent year on year to 56.53 billion U.S. dollars in 2009, according to a government report issued Sunday.Non-financial ODI, which accounts for 84.5 percent of the total, stood at 47.8 billion U.S. dollars last year, up 14.2 percent from one year earlier, while the country's overseas investment in financial sectors declined 37.9 percent to 8.7 billion U.S. dollars, according to a report jointly released by the Ministry of Commerce, the National Bureau of Statistics and the State Administration of Foreign Exchange.By the end of 2009, Chinese enterprises established 13,000 overseas companies in 177 countries, with combined assets topping 1 trillion U.S. dollars, according to the report.

TIANJIN, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- China could meet the full-year inflation target of 3 percent if macro-control policies were effective, a senior economic planner said Tuesday at the World Economic Forum's annual Summer Davos meeting."China has paid high attention to managing inflation expectations by stepping up macro-controls this year," said Zhang Xiaoqiang, deputy director of the National Development and Reform Commission."If managed well, the full-year target of consumer price index of around 3 percent is still attainable," he said.The CPI climbed to a 22-month-high of 3.5 percent in August because of rises in food and fuel prices and a low comparison base.Food prices are likely to remain within reasonable range after macro-control and there is still room for industrial products to fall due to heated competition, Zhang said.The chance is also small for import prices of commodities to experience a dramatic rise again in the rest of the year after earlier retreating, he said.
