Our voting system prevents a situation where if a voter uses a Sharpie to vote and it bleeds through to the other side, it will not impact any 'bubbles' on the opposite side," the Registrar said.The county added that polling locations do not provide Sharpies and instead use "archival pens," which were identified to be the best writing instrument more than a decade ago."In San Diego County, we do not provide Sharpies to voters to mark their ballot. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Small Business Administration Administrator Jovita Carranza visited San Diego to check on America's investment in small businesses."Being here in San Diego and very vibrant market and thousands and thousands of small businesses benefited from the Paycheck Protection Program," Carranza said.One of those businesses is VetPowered and their non-profit Workshops for Warriors, which trains veterans in manufacturing. The company launched in 2008.More than 750 veterans have graduated and 95% of them have been placed in permanent jobs. "The SBA funding we received was a lifeline had we not received that funding we would have had to shut down operations and all the students that were here most of them would become homeless so thanks to these loans not only were we able to continue operations we’ve had two COVID graduations we’ve been able to put almost 100 graduates that I’ve been trained and certified in advanced manufacturing skills into the workforce and I am so thankful for their support," Hernán Luis y Prado, Founder and CEO of VetPowered and Workshops for Warriors.Carranza said negotiations for another round of PPP has been in negotiations for more than two months. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego will continue using part of the second floor of Golden Hall as a temporary bridge shelter, and add a fourth location on the other side of downtown.The City Council voted Tuesday to fund its three current shelters for the next year, and seek an operator for a new one at 17th and Imperial. A recent point in time count found more than 5,000 homeless people in the city - about half of whom are unsheltered. The temporary bridge shelters in total have about 665 beds. The shelters provide services to help residents find work and ultimately transition to permanent housing. The San Diego Housing Commission reports that since the shelters opened around December 2017, about 540 previously homeless people - or 39 percent - have transitioned to permanent or other long-term housing after a month-long stay. That shows improvement from a March 2018 update, when that number was about 14 percent. "We're making headway big time," said Bob McElroy, who heads Alpha Project - which operates a downtown shelter. "Some of our folks have been out here 20-plus years, and you're not going to get your proverbial you-know-what together in three months."McElroy said longer-term financial commitments have helped attract more qualified staffing, and noted that Alpha Project recently opened a 52-unit complex that brought more housing opportunities. Hundreds of hospital staff lined the hallways to cheer for and high-five a donor as they’re wheeled into surgery. Hayley Gibbons got to experience the Hero Walk. "I don't think I could've gotten into the operating room on a bigger high. There's no way you could've doubted that you wanted to save someone after going down that hall,” Gibbons said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego's flu season has hit a record high.More than 20,000 lab-confirmed cases have been reported this season in San Diego, according to the County Health and Human Services Agency.
