An investigation into what led up to an explosion that hurt officers and a hostage situation in North Haven continued on Thursday.State police said a man held his wife hostage inside of a home on Quinnipiac Avenue for several days.She escaped, but he barricaded himself inside a barn near a house on the property.That's when police said the explosion happened on Wednesday night.Eight officers were hurt and the suspect is not in custody. Police said they continue to search for him.The area surrounding the property has been blocked off by rows of cruisers. Quinnipiac Avenue is closed between McArthur Road and Pent Way.North Haven police said they first responded around 2 p.m. on Wednesday.A woman went to the North Haven Police Department with a complaint about an incident at the Quinnipiac Avenue home.Police said the woman had managed to escape after she was held hostage for three days by her husband.Troopers told Channel 3 that they determined a tactical response was necessary.A SWAT team was called in to help.While police and the SWAT team were negotiating with the man, state police said there was an explosion at a barn near the home.Flames were captured in video that was recorded at the scene.The last time the man was seen was when he was barricaded inside of the barn."The suspect is not in custody at this time," said trooper Kelly Grant, Connecticut State Police. "They are still attempting to locate that suspect. They have asked the residents right in this general vicinity to shelter in place while they conducted this investigation."The eight tactical officers who were hurt in the explosion were taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital.None of their injuries were life-threatening.State police have taken over the investigation.  1762

(AP) — A Los Angeles police detective has been charged with secretly videotaping dozens of men inside a restroom at Angel Stadium of Anaheim.The Anaheim city attorney's office says 42-year-old Ryan Caplette was charged Friday with 75 misdemeanor counts.Prosecutors allege that Caplette was the man seen videotaping inside a stadium bathroom on June 8. He was off-duty at the time. Caplette was released after being placed under a citizen's arrest.Prosecutors allege that Caplette videotaped at least 37 people that day.Caplette is charged with disorderly conduct that includes peeping with intent to invade privacy, secretly videotaping in a restroom and loitering.Caplette couldn't immediately be reached for comment. He has a court appearance scheduled for July 22.An LAPD spokesman says Caplette has been assigned to paid home duty. 859

ARVADA, Colo. — An 11-year-old girl penned a letter to Santa filled with heartache, asking him to stop her “sadness” after losing her father and grandmother in a house fire over the summer.Brooklynn Alexander, 11, wrote her Christmas wish and dropped off her letter in Santa’s mailbox in her hometown of Arvada.Amber Klein built the mailbox to ensure Santa received every letter written by kids in Arvada before Christmas.“Every night, I send the letters off to Santa,” Klein said.While helping Santa read through the letters, Klein came across Brooklynn’s wish, a heartfelt letter raw with pain.“Santa, I’ve been suffering from depression and my anger issues have been bad lately. So, what I am trying to say is — I shouldn’t get presents and can you please stop my sadness,” Klein read in the letter.In July, a fire tore through Brooklynn's home, killing her father and grandmother. A neighbor rescued her from inside. She was put on a ventilator and spent more than a week at the hospital. The pain and anguish Brooklynn feels brought memories of Klein’s dad rushing back.“My dad passed away in a house fire and I just immediately wanted to protect her,” Klein said.Klein took to Facebook to track down Brooklynn. It didn’t take long for the two families to bond.“I told her about my dad and how he died,” Klein said. “I showed her the necklace that I wear that has my dad’s ashes in it and now Brooklynn wants the same thing.”Two lives, decades apart, found each other as Brooklynn learns to navigate her pain.“I feel like whether it be my dad or Brooklynn’s dad, that they brought us together,” Kelin said.Through tears, Brooklynn says Kelin’s story gives her hope that life will get better.Brooklynn has since written a second letter to Santa. Her wish list includes a body pillow, fluffy socks and a paint-set with watercolors. AN DIEGO (CNS) - A 25-year-old man staying at a hotel in the Core-Columbia area was robbed at gunpoint by two men, who forced their way into his room this morning.The man was staying at the Comfort Inn Hotel at 664 G St. when two men wearing black shirts forced their way into his room at 2:20 a.m, according to Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department.The victim was tied up and the suspects ransacked his room, then left, Heims said.A description of the suspects was not available. There were no reports of injuries. 541
