WASHINGTON, D.C. – If Joe Biden wins the presidency, the former vice president says he would rejoin the Paris Agreement on his first day in office. The United States formally withdrew from the agreement on Wednesday, as President Donald Trump promised to do last year.“Today, the Trump Administration officially left the Paris Climate Agreement. And in exactly 77 days, a Biden Administration will rejoin it,” Biden tweeted Wednesday in reaction to Trump’s actions. The agreement is a global pact that was put together by the United Nations in 2015 to help avert the threat of catastrophic climate change. The central aim is to strengthen the global response to the threat of climate change by keeping a global temperature rise this century well below 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels and to pursue efforts to limit the temperature increase even further to 1.5 degrees Celsius.Scientists say that any temperature rise over could have devastating impacts on parts of the planets, including rising sea levels, an increase in tropical storms and worsening droughts and floods.A total of 189 countries remain committed to the accord, according to The Associated Press. 1182

We sincerely regret that this incident fell short of the experience we strive to give our customers every day. We reached out to this customer immediately after being notified of this event. We take the safety of our community and the conduct of Dashers extremely seriously. We have since taken appropriate actions, including deactivating the Dasher from our platform for failing to follow and maintain our standards of food safety. This story was originally published by Kimberly Craig on 497

Washington state has a new law to protect net neutrality at a time when the feds are getting rid of it.In a bipartisan effort, the state's legislators passed House Bill 2282. which was signed into law Monday by Gov. Jay Inslee."Washington will be the first state in the nation to preserve the open internet," Inslee said at the bill signing. The state law, approved by the legislature last month, is to safeguard net neutrality protections, which have been repealed by the Federal Communications Commission and are scheduled to officially end April 23. Net neutrality requires internet service providers to treat all online content the same, meaning they can't deliberately speed up or slow down traffic from specific websites to put their own content at advantage over rivals. The FCC's decision to overturn net neutrality has been championed by the telecom industry, but widely criticized by technology companies and consumer advocacy groups. Attorneys general from more than 20 red and blue states filed a lawsuit in January to stop the repeal.Inslee said the new measure would protect an open internet in Washington, which he described as having "allowed the free flow of information and ideas in one of the greatest demonstrations of free speech in our history."HB2282 bars internet service providers in the state from blocking content, applications, or services, or slowing down traffic on the basis of content or whether they got paid to favor certain traffic. The law goes into effect June 6.  1512

WASHINGTON, D.C. – It’s a convergence of two health crises: the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and a new flu season now underway.“There’s not much flu in the northern hemisphere in the summer - but there is a lot in the southern hemisphere,” said Dr. Amesh Adalja, a senior scholar at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security and an infectious disease critical care and emergency medicine physician.Dr. Adalja said health care professionals have observed the flu in places like Australia and New Zealand during the past several months, which could offer clues into what might be expected here as our weather gets colder.“The southern hemisphere has had a remarkable flu season mostly because it's 99% lower than what they've seen in prior years,” Dr. Adalja said. “This has to do with the fact that the social distancing that people are doing for COVID-19 also has an impact on influenza because they're both spread in the same manner.”However, the U.S. has failed to control the spread of the coronavirus, leading to fears that the country might be facing a “twindemic,” where COVID-19 and the flu collide. The one silver lining: less international travel around the world may make it harder for the flu to spread globally like it has in years past.“The point we have to continue to emphasize is we don't know for sure if we'll have a light flu season and we have to prepare for one that's severe,” Dr. Adalja said.So far, the coronavirus has killed more than 210,000 people in the U.S. this year. According to the Centers for Disease Control, that’s more than the previous five flu seasons combined.Estimated flu season deaths:2015-16: 23,0002016-17: 38,0002017-18: 61,0002018-19: 34,0002019-20: 22,000Total 2015-2020: 178,000Still, any uptick in hospitalizations because of the flu could further strain hospitals already dealing with COVID-19. One region of concern is the upper Midwest, in places like Wisconsin, which is a current coronavirus hotspot."It is stretching our hospital capacity, and it is overwhelming our public health infrastructure,” said Andrea Palm of the Wisconsin Department of Health Services. One step that could help is to ensure everyone gets a flu shot, even if it doesn’t end up being a perfect match to this year’s strain.“Even if it isn't a complete match and it doesn't prevent you from getting the flu, it still will prevent you from dying from influenza and getting hospitalized with influenza or getting complications from influenza,” Dr. Adalja said.It is also now one of the few tools available in a time of great uncertainty. 2573

WELLINGTON, Fla. - Golf courses and grade-schoolers don’t always go hand in hand but for one 6-year-old in Wellington, it’s a perfect match. The first-grader in question is Brian “Little B” Kelley. He has a long list of hobbies, but at the top of the list is golf.“Every night I have dreams about golf,” said Kelley. He picked it up from his dad, Brian “Big B” Kelley, an admittedly average golfer. The two spent plenty of weekends watching pro golfers on TV before Little B could even talk. Little B caught the bug, big time.“I just watch the pros and learn it,” he said.It mystified the adults around him, including his dad who said, “ next thing you know he’s got this amazing swing that I want.”There’s more to this story than a kid with a ton of talent, "Little B’s" parents Brian and Elizabeth are open about his adoption in Kansas City six years ago when he was three weeks old.“He was five pounds at a month old so I had him in the palm of my hand,” said Big B.His mom, Elizabeth Kelley, describes him as the gift that keeps on giving.“It just is incredible and yes he’s got an incredible talent with golf but that’s not the thing that makes him special, it’s him and who he is,” she said.A focused flexible and driven athlete, his caddy Chris Arbour says he brings an "X factor" to the game and that’s become a priority.“Be kind to people,” is the way Little B describes it.Arbour said, “I’ll be his friend for the rest of my life if he lets me.”He says it’s already made him a better person. And it can't be ignored for Little B, it made him quite the player. He’s ranked 24th in the world with US Kids Golf, 3rd in the Southeast Region, and 4th in the state. If you ask him though he’ll tell you having fun is number one. This story was first reported by Chris Gilmore at WPTV in West Palm Beach, Florida. 1821
