BEIJING, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- A senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Monday urged greater efforts to make the training of officials more pertinent to and effective in raising their skills at governing.Push forward the reform of the training of officials unswervingly so that the training could better serve the scientific development of the country, said Li Yuanchao, head of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee at a conference on the reform in Beijing on Monday.He added that the training must be both relevant and complementary to officials' jobs and called for the optimization of the systems that educate officials on Party theories, governance and Party spirit.He stressed the need to create a diverse official training system with more involvement from higher-learning institutions and research institutes besides the current main training channel of Party schools and administration schools.He also called for better training of officials at grassroots levels.The general office of the CPC Central Committee issued the text of the reform outlines for the period of 2010 to 2020 on Tuesday. BEIJING, June 12 (Xinhua) -- China's top economic planner Saturday forecast a "mild" year-on-year rise in the consumer price index (CPI), a main gauge of inflation, in June, resulting in an average CPI increase of around 2.6 percent in the first half.The projection by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) came one day after China released its latest economic data.The latest estimate was revised up from a 2.5-percent CPI rise the NDRC projected on May 18.China's CPI hit a 19-month high with a 3.1 percent year-on-year increase in May, surpassing the central government's targeted 3 percent annual inflation limit.During the January-May period, China's CPI rose 2.5 percent year on year.According to the NDRC's projection posted on its website, China's June CPI will dip slightly month on month, but still post a "mild year-on-year increase" due to the low comparison basis in the same month last year.The NDRC said positive factors for basic price stability were on the increase, citing sharp falls in international commodities prices, the government's macro control policies and a crack-down on farm produce speculation as well as a possible good grain harvest this summer.Sheng Laiyun, spokesman for the National Bureau of Statistics, said Friday at a press conference that China had the basics for keeping prices under control this year."Although China faces quite a lot of pressure, the 3-percent target (for the whole year) is still possible with effort," he said.

XI'AN, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu has urged local authorities to keep flood casualties and losses to minimum and to launch reconstruction work in a timely and orderly way.Hui was speaking during an inspection of flood-affected areas in Weinan and Shangluo cities in north China's Shaanxi Province from Aug. 2 to 3.He visited affected residents, as well as soldiers who were fighting the floods, saying the flood work had entered a crucial stage.Since mid July, many areas in Shaanxi Province have seen continuous rain, leading to frequent natural disasters, such as floods, mountain torrents and mud-rock flows.Continuous rainstorms caused mud-rock flows in Zhulinguan Village of Danfeng County, Shangluo city, on July 23 and 24.
