LAKE ALFRED, Fla. -- A Polk County, Florida family is outraged after they say their 7-year-old was forced to scrub school floors with a toothbrush as punishment.The elementary student reportedly misbehaved last week at Lake Alfred Elementary, when her teacher sent the student next door for "corrective action."According to the family, the 7-year-old was told to scrub the floors with a toothbrush.They also claim teachers told her to clean the entire floor, and when she was done she was told to then clean the counters.Family members say she was forced to do this throughout the day and was not able to participate in regular classroom activities. The family says they were not made aware of the misbehavior or the punishment their daughter received. Like most teachers nearing the end of the school year, Kelsea Hindley’s days are spent grading online tests and making sure her students have completed all of their assignments for the year.But for this 28-year-old high school French teacher, the end of this school year also marks the beginning of her first summer vacation as a survivor of COVID-19.Hindley was only the second person in the state of Massachusetts, where she lives, to be diagnosed with the virus earlier this year. It was a harrowing experience, not just because of the symptoms she was dealing with, but because of the stalking she said she received from local news media.In the early stages of the outbreak, her case brought with it a wave of fear and uncertainty she had never experienced before in her life. Some people, who she had never met, took to social media, saying she should leave town because they thought she might spread the novel coronavirus, even though she was quarantined at home.“My anxiety level has never been that high in my life,” she recalled. “I felt so bad. I felt like I had done something to people.”Hindley believes she more than likely contracted the virus while on a school trip to Europe with her students back in February. They had left the country weeks before top health officials had even begun to discuss the possibility of stay-at-home orders.Hesitant to tell her story at first, she is now speaking out in hopes of connecting with other COVID-19 survivors, who might be experiencing the same kind of survivors guilt as her.“Unless you’ve been sick, you don’t understand how it feels. It just feels extremely isolating,” she said about having the virus. “Don’t hold this against people just because they get sick.”Months after first getting sick, the social media attacks have all but died down. She hopes other Americans see her case and have empathy for the thousands of others who are dealing with the virus.“I want people to look at people like me and see that we do get better,” she said. “Just because I got sick doesn’t mean you have to treat me any differently than anyone else.” 2104

But here in Lexington, it was no match for Charles and Nellie Anness.Married since 1949, after meeting at a baseball game a year earlier in Harrodsburg, Charles (89) and Nellie (88) fought off the virus, like a batter fighting off a 3-2 pitch. "We feel pretty good, now that we get to go home," Nellie said from the entrance to Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital.Charles and Nellie believe they caught the virus while attending a church service in Gatlinburg, Tennessee more than one month ago. For ten days, the couple had to be separated at Baptist Health Hospital during treatment. While fighting back the tears, Nellie explained how that was the most challenging part of the entire ordeal given they'd barely spent one day apart over the last 71 years."We don't even like to talk about that. It was awful," Nellie said.After the hospital stay, a 16-day stint at Cardinal Hill followed, where they'd undergo a rehab program to improve their strength and ability to live on their own."I think they did great," said Emily Goggin, a therapist at Cardinal Hill, who worked extensively with the couple.The virus, as it's done to so many, attacked Charles and Nellie aggressively, but it spared them the thing they most needed in order to recover."I think love inspires us to be motivated to wake up and get out of bed each day," Goggin added.It inspired this couple to reach this day, the day they could finally go home together. We have something special," Nellie said. "I love him just as much as I ever have. Maybe more. LAWRENCE, Kan. - University of Kansas head football coach Les Miles has been diagnosed with COVID-19, the Jayhawks athletic department announced Thursday.Miles said he learned he had tested positive earlier in the day and was “beginning the isolation process at my home.”KU, which is 0-3 in 2020, has a bye this weekend and isn't scheduled to play again until Oct. 6 at West Virginia, and Miles “will continue to fulfill my head coach responsibilities remotely.”He will not, however, be present at Jayhawks practices unless and until he has recovered.“Although I will not physically be able to attend a practice, for the time being, I will be using the technology available for remote working to stay connected during staff meetings, meetings with players, etc.,” Miles said in a statement.Kansas Director of Athletics Jeff Long said Miles’ case was caught through the program’s surveillance testing protocols.“At this time, we believe he will be able to continue to perform his head coaching duties,” Long said in a statement. “Based on the other test results, no other coaches tested positive.
