All across the small town of Octavia, Neb., about two hours north and west of Omaha, residents woke up Wednesday morning to find damage from softball-sized hail the night before.Jennifer Rose says the hail damaged her two vehicles."It started like just raining and you could hear the plunking of the hail," Rose said. "And it started started small, like ping pong-sized, and it kept getting bigger and bigger."Roofer Bryan Underwood says Octavia was pummeled with hail causing damage to roofs, vehicles and siding. The hail was so heavy, some stuck into the ground."I usually travel to the bigger stuff so i can try and help out as much as I can," Underwood said. "It's the beginning of the season. Everyone's like, 'Wow.' And we are, too."Paul Augustyn's turkeys were safe from the hail but their coop couldn't quite weather the storm. Neither could his Lexus."Mainly this car," he said, pointing to the Lexus. "My truck is a little beat up. It broke the back window out. Broke the windshield. AKRON, Ohio -- His bags were packed and his plans had been made. But a 27-year-old man known for his effervescence and strong work ethic didn't make it home Wednesday night, the day before he was set to start a new job in a new state. Friends and family of Clintin Churby, who worked at Summit Racing, remain shell-shocked after a wrong-way driver killed him Wednesday night in Akron, Ohio.Shortly after 8 p.m. Wednesday, a 63-year-old man driving a pickup truck entered I-76 heading the wrong direction—eastbound in the westbound lanes—when he struck Churby near the top of the Central Interchange, according to Akron police. Churby was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver was taken to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center where his condition remains unknown. While the accident remains under investigation, police said it appears that alcohol may have played a factor in the fatal wrong-way crash.According to Churby's mother, Sandi, Clintin had just finished a half-day at work at Summit Racing in anticipation of a promotion and transfer to a facility in Texas. Wednesday was his last day."He had it together. He was going to his next adventure. We were supposed to cry all night because he moved to Texas," Sandi said. "Now, we're going to cry forever."Sandi began to sense that something might be amiss when her son didn't come home between 8 and 9 p.m., his expected arrival. She initially thought that maybe he was tied up at work still saying goodbye to his friends and co-workers. She called. She left voicemails. She fired off text messages.She was met with silence until a knock came on the front door."[Clintin] was a hard worker. He worked for a living. He didn't drink for a living. The irony..." Sandi said as her voice trailed off. "He was an innocent boy that was going places. It's not right. It's not right. Clintin made everybody smile. He was a happy boy. He was going places, literally."Not much is known about the driver that cause the fatal crash. As of Thursday evening, formal charges have not been filed against the man. Police said in a news release Thursday that the investigation remains ongoing."I want [the wrong-way driver] to hear how many people he hurt. It's uncalled for. He drove for over a mile the wrong way at 8 p.m. at night. How do you do that? How do you get in your car, 63-years-old and drunk? How do you do that?" Sandi said. "I almost wish he was younger so he could suffer longer in jail. He's not going to be there long enough."Earlier this month, Clintin's closest friends joined him at a local campground to celebrate his new job and his new opportunity. A white van drove onto a busy Toronto sidewalk, and struck dozens of pedestrians, killing 10 and wounding 15, Toronto Police officials said on Monday. Later in the day, police said that Alek Minassian allegedly targeted the crowd of pedestrians. Police were called to the area of Yonge Street at Finch Avenue around 1:30 p.m. local time after the van fled from the scene. Police have since shutdown the area, and blocked off several streets. Authorities later caught up to the van and its driver.Canadian news agency the CBC reported that the van's driver is in custody.Video from the incident showed several ambulances taking away victims on stretchers from the scene of the incident. Stephen Powell, district chief for Toronto Fire, said that targeted pedestrians for up to one mile. The CBC has reported that part of Toronto's subway service has been shutdown. The area is in the North York neighborhood of Toronto, which is several miles north of Downtown. The area is densely populated with apartments and businesses.  1096

Just like adults, they're impacted by mixed messages from government officials.Younger people also don't have any prior experience with this kind of global event.“The decision that you make is not about necessarily your safety. It's about other people's safety, and the consequences of a bad decision on your part might not be known to the person next to you for ten days,” said Locke. “It's really easy to be lulled into thinking everything's fine.”Locke says most students he's talked with want to make this work and are frustrated with others putting them at risk.He thinks schools can help by encouraging everyone to work together to stay on campus and punishing students who don't follow the rules. 1321
