AURORA, Colo. -- When Amy and Marco Becerra adopted a 3-year-old Peruvian girl last April, they had no idea what kind of ordeal it would be to get approval for her to stay in the U.S.The Aurora couple, both U.S. citizens, had been living in Peru and had been taking care of their adopted daughter Angela since she was 12 days old.After getting clearance from the Peruvian courts to adopt Angela, they began planning to come back to the U.S. But Angela's application for immigration kept getting delayed."We had been reaching out to USCIS (United States Citizenship & Immigration Services) for over a year, asking and sometimes begging, and sometimes crying for help," Amy Becerra said. She said the people answering USCIS's 1-800 number would simply recite what was on their website, and that some of the information conflicted with information on another government agency website.Tourist VisaThe Becerras brought Angela to Colorado on a tourist visa, and continued their efforts to get Immigration officials to grant her citizenship.Earlier this month, they learned their request had been denied.It came as a shock."No one can believe that would happen to two U.S. Citizens," Amy Becerra said.The couple went public with their plight.Congressman gets involvedRepublican Colorado Congressman Mike Coffman then got involved. "What a broken immigration system that would even think about deporting a 4-year-old," Coffman said.On Thursday, Coffman held a news conference to announce that USCIS had reversed course."They said they re-opened it due to the complexities of the case," he said, adding that he believes the agency bowed to public pressure which was a result of all of Amy Becerra's hard work.The Becerras will now be able to reapply for Angela's citizenship papers.The Congressman's Communications Director Daniel Bucheli said it should be automatic since both parents are U.S. Citizens.He said Coffman offered to pay the ,040 application fee out of his own personal account."I feel very grateful," Marco Becerra said. Aspiring actress Mareli Miniutti was granted a restraining order against famed lawyer Michael Avenatti on Monday, accusing him of physical and verbal violence -- including hitting her face with pillows, calling her an "ungrateful b****" and dragging her across the floor.The revelation comes after Avenatti was arrested by Los Angeles police on suspicion of felony domestic violence last week. CNN has confirmed that Miniutti is the alleged victim in the arrest. Avenatti, who was released on bail the day of the arrest, has not yet been charged in the case.In a declaration filed as part of the request for a restraining order in Los Angeles Superior Court, Miniutti, 24, said she and Avenatti had been dating since October 2017 and living together since January of this year.She described an altercation last week in which she and Avenatti began fighting about money, leading to him calling her an "ungrateful, f***** b****." Avenatti proceeded to get "very close to me in a threatening manner that made me afraid," Miniutti said in the declaration.As the altercation worsened, Miniutti alleged, Avenatti "began forcefully hitting me in the face with pillows from the bed," and then grabbed her wrist and, later, her arm."He dragged me on the floor of the apartment towards and out of the door into the public hallway," Miniutti said. "I was wearing only my underwear and t-shirt at the time, and suffered scratches to the bare skin on my side and leg."Miniutti said she eventually went down to the ground floor of the building, with Avenatti following. Miniutti said a friend picked her up and took Miniutti to her home, after which she called the police and gave them her statement.The next day, Miniutti said, she returned to the building to retrieve her belongings from the apartment. Authorities and the Sacramento Kings are preparing for protests that are expected Thursday after the funeral for Stephon Clark, an unarmed black man who was killed by police in his grandmother's backyard.Over the past week, the Kings have found themselves at the center of the conflict between police and outraged members of the community.Protesters have blocked the entrance to the arena on two occasions in protest over the March 18 shooting. Last Thursday, the protest forced the Kings and Atlanta Hawks to play in a nearby empty arena.On Tuesday, the doors of the arena closed as protesters arrived, again preventing fans from getting in.Sacramento police said Wednesday they are talking with team officials to plan for the Thursday game against the Indiana Pacers.
