Bill Cosby's sentencing hearing is set for September 24 and 25, according to a court order from Judge Steven O'Neill.Cosby was found guilty last month of three counts of aggravated indecent assault for drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand at his home in a Philadelphia suburb in 2004.The 80-year-old comedian faces up to 10 years in prison on each count, although the actual sentence is likely to be much shorter."He was convicted of three counts of (indecent assault), so technically that would be up to 30 years," Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele said after the verdict. "However, we have to look at a merger of those counts to determine what the final maximum will be."Some legal experts have said they do not think Cosby will spend any time behind bars. His defense team has said it will appeal the guilty verdict, and it is possible that O'Neill will allow Cosby to remain on house arrest until that appeal is resolved. For now, Cosby is not permitted to leave his Pennsylvania home. If he does leave the state for another home, it would have to be arranged ahead of time, and he would have to wear a GPS monitoring device, the judge ruled.Janice Baker-Kinney, who testified that Cosby drugged and raped her in 1982, said he should spend time in prison."I believe that it's essential he spend time in jail, and it wouldn't break my heart to see him spend the rest of his life in jail," Baker-Kinney said after the verdict. In general, judges can take any number of factors into account when issuing a sentence. Cosby's age, his health, the philanthropic work he's done over the last several decades and his lack of prior criminal convictions are all likely to be considered in deciding the sentence.Cosby's guilty verdict was the first criminal conviction of a high-profile celebrity since the rise of the #MeToo movement, which has forced a public reckoning with influential men accused of abusing their power. 1956
Bill and Hillary Clinton are going on tour. The Clintons announced on Monday that they would headline a series of live events together -- billed "An Evening with The Clintons" -- across the country in the final weeks of 2018 and into 2019.The tour will provide the Democratic stalwarts with a notable platform weeks after the consequential 2018 midterm elections and deep into 2019, when a number of Democrats will be jockeying for positions in the fight to be the party's standard bearer against President Donald Trump in 2020.The events, which are being produced by tour promoter Live Nation, are being billed as "one-of-a-kind conversation with two individuals who have helped shape our world and had a front seat to some of the most important moments in modern history.""From the American presidency to the halls of the Senate and State Department to one of the United States' most controversial and unpredictable presidential elections, they provide a unique perspective on the past, and remarkable insight into where we go from here," reads the website dedicated to the tour. The tour will start in Las Vegas, Nevada, with an event at the Park Theater. The couple will then travel to Toronto, Montreal and Texas before the end of 2018. The tour will start back up in April of 2019 with events in New York, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, the District of Colombia, British Columbia, Washington and California.Ticket prices run the gamut based on each location, but top tickets at the couple's events in Texas cost 9. The least expensive tickets at some of the events were around .A Clinton spokesman did not respond to a request for comment on how much the Clintons will be paid for the tour.Cross-country tours are in vogue for Democratic heavyweights. Former first lady Michelle Obama announced earlier this year that she would embark on a 10-city tour around her upcoming memoir, "Becoming."While the events were billed as a chance for an "intimate conversation" with the former first lady, Live Nation booked arenas -- including the United Center in Chicago -- for the tour. 2100
Broadcasters Joe Buck and Troy Aikman were reportedly captured on a hot mic Sunday before the Green Bay Packers-Tampa Bay Buccaneers game criticizing and mocking the stadium flyover at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.According to a video obtained by Defector Media, the broadcasters wondered why a flyover was happening at all, with the stadium being filled at 25% capacity.According to CNN, Aikman was heard saying on the clip that the flyover wouldn't happen on a Kamala-Biden ticket.Aikman took to Twitter on Tuesday to discuss his comments."I love a flyover but It was odd to see one over a mostly empty stadium but I am an unwavering patriot that loves this country, has always respected our flag, supported the men and women in the armed forces as well as those in uniform who serve & protect and for anyone to suggest otherwise doesn't know me, my beliefs or what I have stood for my entire life," Aikman tweeted. 931
Bob Seger fans are still dealing with the fallout from his Fall 2017 tour. The heartland rocker wasn't able to perform for medical reasons; a big disappointment for Arizona fan Monica Harty."One of those concerts you wanna see before you die--this was one of them," she says. But after months of waiting for the show to be rescheduled, she decided to ask StubHub for her money back."They said 'well we have a placeholder date,'" Harty says. But that date was well over a year away and with 6 on the line, Harty was not willing to wait. Didn't matter. She says she was told, "It still shows in our system that a concert is coming and we don't have to refund.""I said well that doesn't seem exactly right."But it was. Because Seger's shows were postponed---not canceled. Which makes a big difference in the world of ticket selling. StubHub--where Monica bought hers--has a no refund policy for: "postponed events, partial performances, line-up changes, or venue, date, or time changes."What if she couldn't be there on some random future date? She even filed a dispute with her credit card company. It was denied.Yep, Bob Seger himself would have to officially cancel the concert for Harty to see that money again. The other option?"Well you can go ahead and resell the tickets that you have on our site," she says. "How do I sell something that doesn't exist?"None of it made sense to Harty so she let me know.A spokesperson for StubHub said: Postponed events "typically are re-scheduled quickly. We are always happy to take the customer inquiries and respond to them 1:1 for this show, or any future events."In this case, after seven months of waiting StubHub agreed to refund Harty's money after our inquiry."I feel better," she says but says it doesn't take the place of seeing Seger in concert.Cancellations often trigger an automatic refund. With postponements, you're likely going to have to work for it. Find out the policies before you buy and decide if it's worth the risk. 2016
