EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) --  A woman was hit and killed by a vehicle Tuesday night in El Cajon. The crash happened on the 600 block of Greenfield Drive near Magnolia Elementary School around 5:15 p.m.Police say it appears that the woman was walking westbound on the south sidewalk of Greenfield Drive when a blue 2004 Chevrolet Suburban was traveling westbound on Greenfield Drive and veered across the eastbound lanes and left the roadway, hitting her.Paramedics administered CPR and transported the woman to the hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries. The name of the woman has not yet been released. She is believed to be in her 40's. The male driver of the Suburban, a 49-year-old resident of El Cajon, remained on scene and has been fully cooperative with the investigation, according to police. It is unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision.The El Cajon Police Department is asking anyone with information regarding this collision to call (619) 579-3311. 1046

Due to the ongoing pandemic, a record number of people have cast their ballots early for the general election, but many will still head to the polls on Tuesday.If you plan on voting in person on Election Day, there are steps you can take to protect yourself and those around you from COVID-19.As cases spike around the country, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has released a list of tips for voters to reduce the spread of the coronavirus at the polls.The CDC says the more prepared you are, the more you reduce your risk of getting and spreading the virus.Bring your own suppliesThe CDC recommends bringing the following with you when you head to your polling place: Necessary documentation such as your ID, a mask and back-up mask, tissues, hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol, water, black ink pen, and any prepared items like registration forms or sample ballots.Wear a maskThe CDC says you should wear a mask consistently and correctly in public or if you’re around people who you don’t live with. If you must take your mask off, use hand sanitizer before and after. Having an extra mask is helpful if yours gets wet or dirty.Note: A few people might not be able to wear a mask, because of a disability or condition.Keep your distance from othersThe CDC suggests staying at least 6 feet from other people as much as you can. That’s about two arms’ lengths. You should stay that far apart even if you’re wearing masks.Clean your hands oftenThe CDC says to wash your hands or use a hand sanitizer before entering and after leaving your election site. Officials also suggest using a sanitizer after touching items that many others may have touched, such as door handles.The CDC says not to wipe down voting equipment yourself unless you are told to do so. EL CAJON, Calif. - The grieving mother of an accused thief filed a lawsuit Thursday against the homeowner who shot and killed her son.The civil suit identifies the homeowner as Michael Poe, and it stems from an incident in the early morning hours of March 11. Police say the homeowner woke up to the sound of glass breaking. He went outside and found someone breaking into his work truck. His mother Monika Anderson said her son had a drug problem but was doing his best to stay sober.“He was on Suboxone, a drug to stay sober, and someone had stolen his Suboxone,” Anderson said. “Although it's really hard for me to imagine my son at  31 years of age would just start stealing, but I think he was just desperate for drugs and in a lot of pain. I don’t think he deserved to die over that.”Police are investigating the incident and no criminal charges have been filed. Anderson’s attorney, Dan Gilleon, said that investigation should not affect their civil lawsuit.“The bottom line is Joe shouldn't have died and at a minimum it's because this guy didn’t act reasonably,” Gilleon said. “This is not the Wild West. EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) -- Neighbors say two elderly residents of the Lincoln Palms Apartment in El Cajon were taken to the hospital Wednesday, after an explosion on Lincoln Avenue. New resident Jorge Limon told 10News Reporter Rina Nakano he and his grilfriend Samantha were unpacking when they noticed an odd smell. Later, they heard what sounded like two explosions. "We thought somebody threw a table out of the window or something. But then we saw the smoke and fire," Limon said, adding that he immediately grabbed his fire extinguisher to help.  The explosion happened on the first floor of the building around 8 p.m., just below Limon's new apartment.Fire crews arrived four minutes after the 911 call, but were surprised to see that the flames were already out when they arrived. With his extinguisher, Limon was able to put out the flames. The explosion shattered the windows of the downstairs unit, leaving the curtains and glass all around the pool. Inside Limon found the two elderly residents, who he said both suffered injuries. "They both went ot the burn center, which means they had enough burns to where it was a concern," said Heartland Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief Bent Koch. San Diego Gas & Electric, El Cajon Police and several other agencies are investigating what caused the explosion. Limon told 10News his fire extinguisher was no accident. "I made a big deal to bring it," he said.
