INDIANAPOLIS — The child pornography case against Russel Taylor, the former head of Jared Fogle’s obesity campaign foundation has been vacated. Southern District of Indiana Judge Tanya Walton Pratt made the order to vacate Taylor’s sentence on account of Taylor’s defense attorney was “lacking experience and preparation in federal court criminal proceedings.”In December 2015, Taylor was sentenced to 27 years in prison after pleading guilty to 12 counts of sexual exploitation of children and one count of receipt and distribution of child pornography and conspiracy to distribute and receive child pornography. Three of the sexual exploitation of children counts of were based on videos that the court determined “do not depict sexually explicit conduct.” At the time, Taylor’s attorney failed to recognize that and advised him to plead guilty to all counts, the court found. It was also Taylor’s attorney’s first criminal case in federal court, and he “did not undertake the study and research he needed to competently assist Taylor,” Pratt wrote.“There is no question that competent work by counsel would have produced a different outcome in this case,” Pratt wrote. Since the entire plea agreement was negotiated as a package, Taylor’s case will begin again from the beginning. Taylor worked for 12 years as the executive director of the Jared Foundation, a nonprofit Fogle founded to combat childhood obesity. According to documents filed in federal court in the first case, Fogle and Taylor traveled extensively together – with Fogle often asking Taylor to arrange for prostitutes and increasingly expressing interest in children. In November 2015, Fogle was sentenced to more than 15 years in prison. This article was written by Matt McKinney for 1765

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- This time of year, it's easy to overspend on gifts for friends and family, but sometimes it's the gift of a handwritten card that can be the best one of all.Annie Taylor visited Hallmark, the world's top greeting card maker, to learn more about the art of this century-old gift.Amy Goodnow is among those who know how special cards can be. Every holiday season, she remembers her dad by pulling out the cards she once wrote to him.“We were a big card sending family,” said Goodnow. “I had it instilled in me from a very young age to write thank you notes for everything.”Now that she has a daughter of her own, every Christmas they've made it a tradition to send greeting cards to friends and family. They’re not alone. About 1.2 billion cards are sent every holiday season."Greeting cards date back hundreds of years," said Samantha Bradbeer, the keeper of the vault at Hallmark, where cards from every decade are kept. "It was popularized under Queen Victoria during her reign in the 1830s."One of Hallmark’s senior writers, Kat Stano, says sincerity is key to crafting a good holiday card and remembering that everyone’s Christmas is different. "You want it to be honest,” said Stano. “You want to think about people’s current life situations and what they are going through."Geoff Greenleaf, one of Hallmark’s most famous artists, tries to encompass the classic American Christmas with each card he paints. "I grew up in Massachusetts,” said Greenleaf. “I just love the winter and find it’s a beautiful time of year."His paintings begin with intricate sketches."The way you can draw people in with a road or going home, there's a lot of emotion around that," Greenleaf said. Greenleaf’s art has been so well received, it became the inspiration behind Hallmark’s Christmas movie, “Evergreen.”If you’re looking for a gift that creates a lasting memory, Goodnow suggests giving a handwritten card. It might be the best way to show someone you care. 1981

Israel's Beresheet, the first privately-funded mission to the moon, has crashed. The spacecraft aimed to perform a soft landing on the moon and would have made Israel the fourth country to do so -- and by far the smallest. Only the United States, the former Soviet Union and China have done it before."I am sorry to say that our spacecraft did not make it in one piece to the moon," said Opher Doron, the manager of Israel Aerospace Industries' Space Division."We made it all the way to the moon. This is a great accomplishment. We are the seventh country to make it all the way to the moon."The 0 million spacecraft, built by SpaceIL and Israel Aerospace Industries, lost communications with the control room in Israel during the landing sequence. As program managers who had been watching the mission in real time tried to re-establish communications, they also dealt with issues in the spacecraft's main engine. At the time of the communications failure, the Beresheet was traveling at approximately 2,110 mph and was about 120 kilometers (about 74 miles) from its intended landing site."There is a suspicion that we did not land on the moon in the best fashion. We are trying to clarify the matter," a member of the SpaceIL team monitoring the landing sequence said. The spacecraft crashed in the last part of its journey, moments before it was supposed to land.SpaceIL was founded eight years ago to compete for the Google Lunar XPrize. The contest offered million for the first privately funded team to launch a spacecraft to the moon, transmit high-definition video and travel 500 meters in any direction. The XPrize was cancelled in January 2018 but the Israeli team decided to continue its pursuit of the moon landing. The Beresheet spacecraft was launched on board a Falcon 9 rocket in late February. It traveled a total of 4 million miles to the moon, soaring around the Earth before entering orbit around the moon. 1940

It’s with a full heart that I share this news—I’m suspending my campaign for president. To my team, supporters, and everyone who gave me a shot—thank you. I am so proud of what we built, and I feel nothing but faith in what we can accomplish together. pic.twitter.com/Fxvc549vlJ— Cory Booker (@CoryBooker) January 13, 2020 333
