(AP) — California's attorney general is accusing a car dealership of false advertising and lying on loan documents to boost the company's profits at the expense of its mostly low-income customers.Attorney General Xavier Becerra sued Paul Blanco's Good Car Company on Monday.Becerra said the company's prolific TV and radio ads would boast about 2% interest rates and approving people for loans over the phone. But Becerra said those were lies designed to lure customers to the dealership. Once people came, Becerra said the company would then lie about their incomes and the value of the vehicles to convince lenders to approve the loans.Representatives from the dealership did not respond to a request for comment. (AP) — California has launched a state-sponsored retirement plan targeting employers who don't have options for their workers.It's part of a state law requiring companies with at least five California-based employees to offer a retirement plan. As many as 300,000 businesses must comply by 2022.One option is CalSavers, which launched July 1. Companies who sign up for the plan would supply a list of their employees. CalSavers would automatically enroll them and then employers would deduct 5% from their paychecks into a retirement account. Workers can opt out of the plan or choose a different savings rate.California Treasurer Fiona Ma says the program will help people "retire with dignity."A recent study by the University of California-Berkeley says half of the state's private sector workers have no retirement assets. 853

RIDGECREST, Calif. (KGTV) — A 4.7-magnitude earthquake hit just outside the town Southern California town of Ridgecrest late Thursday.The quake struck near area of Little Lake, Calif., about 20 miles away from Ridgecrest just after 5:40 p.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. USGS estimated the earthquake's depth at about 1.2 miles.The earthquake could be felt from as far away as Spring Valley, according to the USGS' "Did You Feel It?" map.Several aftershocks were recorded around the area following the 4.7 shake up. No injuries were immediately reported. On July 5, magnitude 5.4 and 7.1 quakes hit the Ridgecrest area, causing millions in damage locally. Those quakes could be felt as far away as Las Vegas. 729

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The Chief of the Rochester Police Department has announced he is retiring after consecutive nights of protests and amid an investigation into the death of Daniel Prude, who died after being restrained by police in March."As a man of integrity, I will not sit idly by while outside entities attempt to destroy my character," Chief La'Ron D. Singletary wrote in a statement obtained by WXXI and WHAM. "The mischaracterization and the politicization of the actions that I took after being informed of Mr. Prude's death is not based on facts, and is not what I stand for."Deputy Chief Joseph Morabito also announced his retirement and said serving with the department was his "extreme honor."The city's mayor, Lovely Warren, said in a city council briefing that there could possibly be other senior commanders retiring from the department, The Associated Press reports.Rochester has been in the national spotlight after police body camera video was released last week, which shows police putting a spit mask over Daniel Prude's face, and holding him down in an effort to subdue him. Prude died of asphyxiation.Since the video's release, seven police officers have been suspended and the New York Attorney General's Office has begun an investigation into Prude's death. On Saturday, Attorney General Letitia James announced she will empanel a grand jury as part of her probe.Many citizens have been calling for the resignation of both Singletary and Rochester's Mayor, Lovely Warren, within 24 hours following the video of Prude's death becoming public.Warren has said that she was originally told Prude died from an apparent overdose, and that it wasn't until August 4 that she saw the footage of Prude being detained.Warren has since publicly pledged overhauls of police practices.For several consecutive nights, protests have erupted through Rochester. Last Friday, upwards of 2,000 people marched through the streets. "When you’re creating a song with children it really is an incredible group process."The singer and educator is the founder of "Kid Pan Alley." Paul and partner Cheryl Toth immerse themselves in classrooms with students of all ages and abilities.The assignment in every class is songwriting no matter the talent level."There are no bad ideas in Kid Pan Alley," said Paul. "It is so important to impress upon them that every idea is a good idea.""For the children, they’ve written it, so it is their voice," said Cheryl. "So music has a way of capturing our emotion and voice together."The duo says sparking a child's creativity ranks as high as the three R's."I think it touches every aspect of their education," said Cheryl.For 20 years, Paul an accomplished composer has been taking his non-profit and guitar on the road."We’ve worked with about 65,000 kids and written about 2,700 songs," said Paul.In schools from coast to coast, every far-fetched lyric and theme are embraced.“They would say things an adult wouldn’t say. A kindergartner said the wind blew me a pony. I don’t have any adult co-writers that would say anything like that,” said Paul."All of a sudden they come to life because they have something to share and contribute," Cheryl explained.Lyrics written in this classroom go deeper than "Wheels on the Bus.""These songs are very complex and emotional because they reflect what the children are thinking of the time," said Cheryl.Some tunes strike a chord with professionals. Singer Amy Grant recorded one class' collaboration. Another song was even nominated for a Grammy.“We treat the kids to work at the highest professional level. And you’re never quite sure what you’re going to get,” said Cheryl.Paul and Cheryl lament that music and art have taken a backseat to standardized testing.“They say we live in a creative economy. But there is precious little training for children being creative,” says Paul.The singers from Rappahannock County say their goal isn't to encourage students to pursue a career in music. “That is not the important part. The important part is that they take what they’re doing and doing it in a creative way,” said Paul.During these days of remote learning, "Kid Pan Alley" is adapting to the new norm.“This is a time they need it the most. They really need connection,” said Paul.Paul, Cheryl, and other artists write and perform with students virtually.“It is very joyful especially when I see these kids calling their parents in to listen to my song. When we go work with the kids we make a whole bunch of new best friends,” Paul added.Paul Reisler, a teacher helping his students write their way to a Grade "A" education with a lot of rhythms that touches the soul.“Because music brings people together.
