LOGAN HEIGHTS, Calif. (KGTV) -- The man involved in the officer-involved shooting in Logan Heights previously faced an attempted murder charge, according to court records. Witness video obtained by 10News shows the suspect, later identified as 30-year-old Enrique Aguilar, walking in the middle of the street. In the video, it appears Aguilar starts walking toward the direction of police. Yells of “drop the gun” could be heard as Aguilar continues walking down the street. As Aguilar proceeds toward officers, police say he pointed a weapon at them. Several shots were fired and Aguilar fell to the ground. He was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police say he was struck at least once and underwent surgery. Records uncovered by Team 10 show Aguilar’s criminal past dates back more than a decade—from vehicle code violations to drug offenses. In 2010, he faced attempted robbery charges. The following year, Aguilar and two others were charged with attempted murder and first-degree robbery. Documents show he was connected to a local gang. Aguilar entered a plea deal and pleaded guilty to robbery, according to documents. He was sentenced to six years in prison. In the court file, we found a letter he wrote in 2012 saying in part:“I am remorseful for my involvement that I took part in and take full responsibility for my own actions. Sometimes circumstances put us in situations that later on we regret. I’m thankful to God that nobody got killed in this matter. My intentions were never, never to hurt anybody… I wish I could take it all back so I could be with my family. I continuously apologize to the victim and my loved ones for the pain I’m putting them thru [sic]; not being able to support my wife as well for my 3 babies.” Aguilar is now in jail facing a slew of charges including three counts of first-degree attempted murder, attempted assault with a firearm, receiving stolen property, participating in a criminal street gang, and a felon in possession of a firearm. Because of his criminal past, he was not supposed to own any weapons. Aguilar is scheduled to appear in court in the next couple of days. The officers involved in the shooting were not hurt. They have not yet been identified. 2249

LOS ANGELES — Britney Spears is asking a court to curb her father's control over her life and career. In documents filed Tuesday, Spears asked that her father not return to the role of conservator of her person, which gave him power over her life decisions from 2008 until 2019, when he temporarily stepped aside.According to the BBC, Spears is requesting that her manager, Jodi Montgomery, to permanently remain in charge of her affairs when the conservatorship comes up for an extension on Aug. 22.The issue will be discussed at a Wednesday hearing. The documents give a rare public glimpse of the wishes of the 38-year-old pop superstar. Spears last toured in 2018, and sources say she has no plans to return to performing anytime soon.In recent years, some of Spears' fans have said that they believe the singer was forced into the conservatorship arrangement, prompting a social media campaign to #FreeBritney. An email seeking comment from James Spears' attorney was not immediately returned. 1003

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Wells Fargo has agreed to pay billion to settle criminal and civil investigations into a long-running practice whereby company employees opened millions of unauthorized bank accounts in order to meet unrealistic sales goals.Since the fake-accounts scandal came to light in 2016, Wells has paid out billions in fines to state and federal regulators, reshuffled its board of directors and seen two CEOs and other top-level executives leave the company. The billion payment announced Friday includes a 0 million civil payment to the Securities and Exchange Commission, which will distribute those funds to investors who were impacted by Wells' behavior.Since 2016, the bank has battled a laundry list of legal troubles, including creating fake accounts, forcing customers into car insurance purchases they didn't need, overcharging customers, and charging them mortgage fees they didn't deserve. 928

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Los Angeles Lakers CEO Jeanie Buss posted a fan's hate-filled letter to her Instagram account to demonstrate that racism still exists."After much thought, I decided to share this letter I received on Monday so that everyone can see the hate is real and living out there. This is happening in our world TODAY. Its real and it exists," Buss wrote Friday on the social media site. The letter, in which Buss redacted what appears to be at least one instance of the n-word, another word which is completely blacked out and the writer's last name, reads as follows:"Dear Whore -- After 60 years as a huge Lakers fan, I now say to hell with the overpaid (n-word) traitors and the NBA. Go to hell and join (redacted word) Kobe Bryant," says the typed missive from a man named Joe.Buss directed a portion of her post to Joe himself:"To Joe: Did sending this letter make you feel better? Really all you did was waste your time, and energy and your postage stamp. (But thank you for including your return home address) Why don't you look in the mirror and see your ugliness because I refuse to."Buss went on to tell her followers that she has received letters like this over the years, but was always advised to "ignore it."She urged her friends to recognize that racism exists and to stop ignoring it."I did. But not anymore," Buss wrote. "On this day, Juneteenth, I ask my white friends to join together, acknowledge the racism that exists in our country and around the world, and pledge to stop ignoring it. We all must do better. #juneteenth #hatewontwin."LeBron James included a shout-out to Buss in his Instagram story, writing "Love you Jeanie!!!" surrounded by heart emojis and giving the finger to Joe.The Lakers organization, which recently hired UCLA professor Karida Brown as its director of racial equity and action, gave the team the day off to celebrate Juneteenth, ESPN reported earlier this week. 1929
