EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) -- An El Cajon police officer responding to a traffic-related call was hospitalized Monday morning after being dragged by an SUV and then struck by another vehicle. Police have identified the suspect as 41-year-old David Francis Cepeda Pangilinan. He is a 5'6" Guamanian male with short brown hair and brown eyes. El Cajon police said officers were called to the 100 block of Washington Avenue at around 8:30 a.m. in response to a vehicle blocking the street with the driver “asleep or unresponsive behind the wheel.”Officers arrived to find the driver and a female passenger asleep inside a black 2019 Volkswagen SUV with California license plate 8LCE117.According to El Cajon police: “When officers woke the occupants, the driver provided identification for someone other than himself and officers began to investigate.During this contact, the driver suddenly started the vehicle and began to put it into gear. One of the officers attempted to detain the driver and keep him from fleeing the scene.In doing so, the officer was trapped in the vehicle and dragged for a distance as the driver fled.As the driver fled with the officer still partially inside the vehicle, the officer was struck by another vehicle that was traveling in the roadway.The officer was ejected from the vehicle and sustained significant injuries.”According to police, the injured officer was taken to the hospital and is in critical but stable condition. No other injuries were reported.A neighbor was doing yard work when the incident happened and watched it unfold."I heard my son scream and crying so I turn around and I see officer down. I run to the officer but the other police man came. The guy was out, completely out. Blood was coming out of his nose, his mouth and his head. And his eyes were rolled in the back of his head. The other officer came and put his hand on his head. I start praying for the guy, the next thing we know we see him move. Richard is accused of swerving into Michelle Scott and driving with her bicycle attached to his car for more than two miles during Tuesday’s crash. (KGTV) — El Cajon Police are warning residents of a recent string of street robberies that have occurred over the past several weeks.Police said the victims have been described as elderly men and have been physically assaulted from behind by a lone suspect. None of the victims report seeing a weapon, but have been robbed while walking on public sidewalks in the areas of the 1000 block of East Main Street and the 800 block of Buena Terrace.The suspect in each case varies, but has been described as either an African American, Hispanic, or Middle Eastern male within the ages of 20 to 40 years old. (KGTV) - Boy Scout Troop 363 has been meeting at the Elks Lodge off West Washington in El Cajon for about 35 years: as long as they’ve stored two trailers in their parking lot. One of the trailers is used to store all of their equipment for their monthly camping trips. The other, a trailer full of supplies for their annual Christmas Tree Fundraiser held in November. In June, their camping gear trailer was stolen out of the lot. They went to check the surveillance cameras in the area.Troop Committee Treasurer Julia Flood told 10News, “The one camera that's on this side of the building was cut."With no leads on who might have stolen the trailer, the Boy Scouts decided to collect personal camping gear to continue their trips. A few weeks later, the second trailer, stored in the same lot, was also stolen. The boys' main fundraiser, which raises close to ,000 annually, was their only hope to replace the stolen items the first time."Our hopes was that by the time we had our Christmas fundraiser we’d be able to recoup some of that loss, now they’ve taken our only means we had to try and recoup," said Flood.The Scouts set up a GoFundMe Page asking for ,000.
