SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego Food Bank on Thursday selected 35 nonprofit organizations around the county with the goal of giving them the food and supplies they need to continue helping families in their area.La Maestra Community Health Center provides health and support services to families from the South Bay to East County. Many of those they serve come from low-income households.Before the COVID-19 pandemic, they helped about 300 families a week. Since then, that number has doubled, and they’re now feeding close to 600 families a week.At a news conference with mayors from San Diego, Chula Vista, and Escondido, the San Diego Food Bank announced the kickoff of their “Super Pantries” program, where they have partnered with 35 pre-selected organizations.Instead of holding the mass distribution food events that they’ve done in the past, the Food Bank will now focus on providing these organizations with food and supplies.San Diego Food Bank President/CEO James Floros said, “Now with the grass roots approach, they can go into their communities and get what they need.”Each organization will also get a check for ,000. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The Rolling Stones are postponing its 15-city North American tour due to the coronavirus outbreak.The band's "No Filter Tour" was set to kick off in San Diego on May 8 at SDCCU Stadium and visit cities including St. Louis, Austin, Louisville, Cleveland, and Atlanta.“We’re hugely disappointed to have to postpone the tour. We are sorry to all the fans who were looking forward to it as much as we were, but the health and safety of everyone has to take priority. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- There is road rash on his forehead and a smile on his face. "Just hangin' in there, man."Julio Vazquez is in a hospital bed at U.C.S.D. Medical Center in Hillcrest, his broken leg in a cast from above the knee to his toes.  "The pain I have is in my right leg.  Once I move it, it's a crazy pain, really bad. My right rib, one is broken and when I raise my voice, it hurts really bad."It was Sunday night about midnight in Ocean Beach. He had pulled over to assist a stranded couple on the shoulder of Sunset Cliffs Blvd.  The Ocean Beach man was trying to help start their white Lexus when another car slammed into them. The impact peeled back the door of the Lexus and propelled Julio into the air, over his own car, and into the ditch.Paramedics were soon on-scene; as his wife and two young children watched.Vazquez was doing a good deed; and paying a price for it.  "Stuff happens. Doesn't make me feel bad. It's just something I do when I see somebody needs help."Now he needs help; could be off work for several months and people are responding.  A GoFundMe page was set up to help offset costs; asking ,000.    "It feels great! SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The woman accused of running over her neighbor during a domestic dispute in Chollas View pleaded not guilty Friday. San Diego Police said Tantrina Spencer-Simmons, 24, was beating her 8-year-old sister with a belt on the 200 block of 47th Street Wednesday. Spencer-Simmons’ 50-year-old neighbor, James Shank, tried to stop her but she put the girl in her SUV. 10News spoke to Shank's wife, Zena Salsbury at her home before the arraignment. She said the incident started when she witnessed her downstairs neighbor, Spencer-Simmons beating her little sister with a belt. As a double amputee, Salsbury could not go downstairs to stop it so she asked her husband to make sure the girl was safe. Salsbury said Spencer-Simmons hit Shank with her car and ran over him before driving away. "You can literally see as the victim is basically cast out from behind the car, the car lurches over and drives off," Erickson said. "She doesn't stop, doesn't hesitate, and literally takes off."Salsbury told 10News her husband now has a broken nose, shattered pelvis, punctured lung, and may need his arm amputated. He is still sedated, undergoing several more surgeries this week. Erickson said Spencer-Simmons turned herself in and was arrested on Market Street. Her bail was set at million.
