El Cajon Police continue to search for a wanted suspect while an officer recovers from being dragged down a road by a car. The suspect has been identified as 41-year-old David Pangilinan of Guam. He’s a school mate of mine back in elementary and middle school,” said Troy Torres. “Mr. Pangilinan’s family is very well known, a very nice family that has built up businesses a lot over the years, has contributed a lot to the community so his name does stand out,” he said, saying most people on the small island have heard of the family so this news has sparked attention across the island.A press release from El Cajon police said Pangilinan is the suspect in a case that started when an officer stopped to check on an SUV parked illegally and blocking traffic on Washington Avenue in El Cajon. He found a sleeping man and woman inside the car that was later determined to be a rental.The male driver of the car first tried to give false identification then started to put it into gear, so the officer tried to stop him. The officer got trapped in the car and was dragged down the road, then hit by another car. The SUV drove away and was deserted nearby, with the man and woman nowhere to be found. They are still on the loose and El Cajon police are asking for the public to report any information on their whereabouts.The officer is in critical condition as of Monday.A police officer in Guam said they’re on high alert and would know if he tried to return to the island because everyone who lands at the airport in Guam is required to go to a mandatory quarantine facility for six days. (KGTV) A witness is disputing the claim that a July 4th incident in an El Cajon neighborhood was a racially motivated attack.On Lima Court on the night of July 4th, families were getting set to view a nearby fireworks show. Scott, who was visiting family, says that for hours, neighbors had been dealing with drivers speeding through the area."Bunch of people telling were telling the cars that were passing through. It happened dozens of times ... to slow down," said Scott.Just before 9, an SUV drove into the neighborhood. Scott says it was also speeding. The woman in the passenger seat, Alana Christman, says they were driving slowly. The man at the wheel was her fiance, William Gavin. Their two young children were in the back."I was looking down at the GPS and we heard, 'You can't come in our neighborhood,'" Christman told 10news in an interview Monday.She says at that moment, a man threw a lit cigarette, which landed on her blouse, the ashes filling up the vehicle. Surveillance video obtained by 10news shows Gavin was outside the vehicle moments later.While Gavin says the man he believed tossed the cigarette, took the first swing, Scott says he saw Gavin swing first."Hit him, threw him to the ground, then kicked him in the chest," said Scott.In the video, a group of people are seen following Gavin to the SUV. Christman calls the group a 'mob,' attacking the SUV and ripping the door off its hinge. Scott says the group was just trying to prevent the man from leaving the scene."Everyone tried to get him to stop for a second. The door was damaged in the process of car trying to pull off and speed off, and ended up hitting a lady in the process," said Scott.Police say a woman suffered minor injuries. The family says they pulled around the corner to get to safety and called police. They told 10news they felt the incident was racially motivated. Scott believes the spark was the speeding cars."People of all races were yelled at that night. It was preventing people from being jerks. It wasn't anything to do with race. It was trying to keep safety for the kids," said Scott.Police say there is "no indication the incident was racially motivated." Dramatic moments in a San Bernardino courtroom today as a prosecutor slammed a sledgehammer onto a table. He was simulating what he says is how a Fallbrook family of four was murdered in 2010. Charles Merritt is accused of killing his business partner, Joseph McStay, his wife Summer and their two young sons Giani and Joe Jr. The prosecution says Merritt was being sidelined from the business and owed thousands of dollars to McStay. The defense countered in their closing arguments that the prosecution focused on trying Merritt’s character and not the actual facts of the murder. The defense told jurors the circumstantial case produced no evidence tying their client to the family’s violent deaths. The prosecution told jurors they didn’t have to prove how, where or when the murders took place, only that Merritt committed them. The McStays disappeared from their Fallbrook home in early February 2010. Days after they were last seen, the family’s SUV was found abandoned at a strip mall parking lot in San Ysidro.In 2013, the bodies of the family members were found in the Mojave Desert, near Victorville. Prosecutors said the family died from blunt-force trauma to their heads. Authorities found a sledgehammer, believed to be the murder weapon, in one of the graves.Merritt was arrested in connection with the killings in November 2014 after sufficient evidence linking him to the case, including DNA, was discovered.Authorities alleged Merritt killed the family members inside their home and then buried them in the desert. Merritt also tried to paint over the crime scene, according to authorities.Merritt, 61, has pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and is being held without bail.Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty in the case. 1758

(KGTV) -- A driver escaped serious injury after jumping from his truck after the brakes went out and just before the vehicle crashed into a Petco store in El Cajon.At around 10 p.m. Thursday, a man was driving his pickup truck near the 500 block of N 2nd Street when he noticed his brakes would not work.He managed to pull into a strip mall parking lot, opened his door, and then bailed from the truck.The truck continued to move and eventually slammed into the front doors of a Petco store.The driver was not injured, but his truck sustained heavy damage. The collision damaged the front door and broke several windows.No other injuries were reported.A building inspector was summoned to the scene to examine the pet store. 749

(KGTV) - In a vigil of hope held Friday night, at least 60 people shared their homes that an El Cajon teen who is reported missing in Phoenix would soon be found. Nineteen-year-old Kiera Bergman grew up in El Cajon and went to Valhalla High School, her aunt, Mindy Tarantino told 10News. The teen moved to Phoenix earlier this year with her boyfriend. Bergman's roommate reported her missing Monday when she didn’t return home and had not shown up to work.“We were told she left her house without her purse, without her car, why would she do that,” Tarantino said. “This isn't in her character. She doesn't stop communicating with people.”Kiera’s mother and sister are in Phoenix waiting for any word from the police. Meantime, her family and friends in El Cajon lit candles and prayed for her safe return.“We haven’t slept in this whole week.
