EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) — The El Cajon officer who was seriously injured after being dragged by a vehicle has been released from the hospital.Officer Nick Cirello was struck by a vehicle on Dec. 14 in the 100 block of W. Washington Ave. at about 8:30 a.m., after officers responded to a call of a vehicle blocking the roadway with the driver and passenger asleep in the vehicle.When the officers awoke the two, the driver gave identification for someone else. The driver suddenly started the vehicle and started to put it in gear, when one of the officers, Cirello, attempted to stop him. He is expected to make a full recovery following his release.Police have identified the suspected driver in the incident as 41-year-old David Francis Cepeda Pangilinan. He's described as a Guamanian man, 5' 6" tall, weighing 200 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.A journalist in Guam told 10News reporter Leah Pezzetti that Pangilinan is from a well-known family in Guam.“Mr. Pangilinan’s family is very well known, a very nice family that has built up businesses a lot over the years, has contributed a lot to the community so his name does stand out,” he said.A police officer in Guam said they would know if he tried to return to the island because everyone who arrives on the island must go into quarantine for six days due to the coronavirus pandemic.The passenger in the suspect vehicle was described as a Hispanic female in her late teens or early 20’s.Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the El Cajon Police Department at 619-579-3311 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 1941

(KGTV) - The San Diego Sheriff’s Office is investigating how several pounds of narcotics wound up magnetized to a man’s truck.A Mexican citizen who lives in Tijuana but works in El Cajon noticed a strange object in his fender Thursday morning and called authorities.Deputies found 4 packages containing roughly 5 pounds of narcotics hidden underneath the man’s pickup truck.The man’s next door neighbor informed them that they had seen men tampering with the victim’s truck overnight.“It’s our feeling that someone targeted this car because he could cross the border every day with the SENTRI pass and they were probably waiting to collect the narcotics later today,” said Sgt. Tim Chantler of the Sheriff’s office.Drivers with a SENTRI pass can travel in establishes dedicated commuter lanes to and cross the border faster after applying and being prescreened. Deputies are awaiting test results for the drugs but suspect either meth, heroin, or fentanyl.The driver is not considered a suspect as he called 911, according to authorities. “I would be checking my vehicle every day before I cross the border” said Sgt. (KGTV) - Boy Scout Troop 363 has been meeting at the Elks Lodge off West Washington in El Cajon for about 35 years: as long as they’ve stored two trailers in their parking lot. One of the trailers is used to store all of their equipment for their monthly camping trips. The other, a trailer full of supplies for their annual Christmas Tree Fundraiser held in November. In June, their camping gear trailer was stolen out of the lot. They went to check the surveillance cameras in the area.Troop Committee Treasurer Julia Flood told 10News, “The one camera that's on this side of the building was cut."With no leads on who might have stolen the trailer, the Boy Scouts decided to collect personal camping gear to continue their trips. A few weeks later, the second trailer, stored in the same lot, was also stolen. The boys' main fundraiser, which raises close to ,000 annually, was their only hope to replace the stolen items the first time."Our hopes was that by the time we had our Christmas fundraiser we’d be able to recoup some of that loss, now they’ve taken our only means we had to try and recoup," said Flood.The Scouts set up a GoFundMe Page asking for ,000. They say that’s how much it will cost to replace both trailers and everything that was inside. In the meantime, they’re just hoping to raise part of that money so they can continue to hold their Christmas Tree Fundraiser a few weeks away."It’s a wonderful start for us so we can get back on our feet and move forward and continue to earn on our own,” Flood said.  1602

During the second national lockdown in the United Kingdom, the country’s coronavirus cases dropped by about 30 percent, according to a new study.The report, from the Real-time Assessment of Community Transmission (REACT) program in the UK, looked at swab tests on more than 105,000 people between November 13 and 24.Researchers found about .96 percent of the sample tested positive for coronavirus.
