Counterintuitive as it is, that’s how credit scoring works.Why 1% is better than 0%Credit scoring systems are designed to predict how likely you are to repay borrowed money. The two biggest credit factors — accounting for about two-thirds of your score — are paying on time and the amount you owe.Credit utilization, or the percentage of your credit card limits you use, is one of the biggest levers you can pull to affect your score, and it works quickly: Your utilization changes as soon as card issuers report your new balances to the credit bureaus each month.If you are trying to squeeze every possible point from credit utilization, the trick is to aim low — just above zero. Investigators are uncovering more details about five adults accused of child abuse after 11 emaciated children were found in a trailer buried in a New Mexico compound last Friday.The two men and three women -- believed to be the mothers of the children -- each face 11 counts "related to the neglect and abuse of the children involved."
