What is true about many of the brand origin stories is that team owners during the birth of these brands hoped to gain financially from mocking Native identity. As a result, these businesses perpetuated racial and political inequity. Those who have kept their logos and brands, continue to do so."Some colleges have previously shied away from past Native American themed nicknames, including the University of North Dakota dropping its Sioux nickname, and Miami (Ohio) University eliminating its Redskins moniker.While those schools were forced to drop their nicknames -- in North Dakota's case, by NCAA mandate -- Florida State has been in a unique situation as it has not dropped its "Seminole" nickname due to getting approval from Seminole Tribe leaders.In July, the Indians said, "We are committed to making a positive impact in our community and embrace our responsibility to advance social justice and equality. BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- A Brooklyn karaoke bar with over 280 people inside was shut down over COVID-19 violations early Sunday, according to the New York City Sheriff's Office.Authorities shut down Legend KTV karaoke bar in Borough Park around 2 a.m.About 281 people were inside the location, which exceeded Department of Building occupancy and had a vacate order from 2018, the NYC sheriff said.The location’s liquor license was also revoked in 2019.The venue had windowless, private party rooms with 25 to 30 people inside, according to a law enforcement source.Inside one of the rooms was a young child who was running back and forth between tables, according to the source.While 281 people were inside, authorities believe there were likely more people as about 40 dispersed when the sheriff’s office arrived, the source said.At least six people were arrested for offenses, including child endangerment, authorities said.This story was originally published by Cristian Benavides and Kristine Garcia at WPIX. 1013

BROOKLYN, Iowa — The family and friends of Mollie Tibbets, missing since July 18, have set up a reward fund in hopes that information leading to her whereabouts will find its way to authorities soon."We believe Mollie is still alive, and if someone has abducted her, we are pleading with you to please release her," a spokeswoman for the family said during a news conference Thursday morning.She urged anyone with information to call the tip line (800) 452-1111 or submit tips via Crimestoppers of Central Iowa website.Anonymous tips funneled through Crimestoppers of Central Iowa will be shared with authorities and investigators working to locate Mollie while ensuring the protection of the identities of those providing information, she said.  As of 10 a.m. Thursday, 2,000 had been raised for the reward fund. "It is our greatest hope that if someone has her, that they would just release her and claim that money that we have raised for her freedom," she said.Getting the information out beyond Mollie's community will be key to finding her, Greg Wiley said at the press conference. Wiley addressed the security technology behind the P-3 anonymous tip line, which encrypts and scrubs the identity and provides only an ID number."If they contact us, we can protect their identity. ...We don't know who you are even if we wanted to know who you are," he said.
