BEIJING, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese government has ordered a crackdown on pirated videos of two Chinese New Year blockbusters "Let the Bullets Fly" and "If You Are the One II."The two Chinese movies are both big hits of the New Year movie season. "Let the Bullets Fly" has raked in over 400 million yuan (59.7 million U.S. dollars) in box office since its debut on Dec. 16, while "If You are the One II" has made 200 million yuan within five days since its release.The crackdown was ordered by the National Office Against Pornographic and Illegal Publications and the General Administration of Press and Publication "in order to protect and boost the development of China's film industry," a statement from the office said Friday.The statement said the crackdown is part of a half-year national campaign against infringement of intellectual property rights (IPR), which is underway.The two departments asked local market watchdogs to enhance market inspections to weed out illegal workshops producing pirated video products.

BEIJING, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- China said it will make greater efforts to start six-party emergency consultations because tensions on the Korean Peninsula have not eased."The six-party talks are a very important way to advance the denuclearization process on the Korean Peninsula and maintain peace and stability in northeast Asia. We, the concerned parties, should make full use of the talks," Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said in an interview in Beijing Friday.Launched in 2003 and stalled since the end of 2008, the six-party talks involve China, Russia, the United States, Japan, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the Republic of Korea (ROK)."While the talks have yet to be resumed, we think it is the proper time for emergency consultations between the heads of the delegations of the six parties," said the foreign minister.Tensions remain high on the Korean Peninsula after the DPRK and the ROK exchanged artillery fire on Nov. 23. China proposed emergency consultations among the chief negotiators in December.Amid the international community's repeated calls for restraint and calm, the United States held separate large-scale naval drills with the ROK and Japan in waters near the peninsula."We will continue to make patient efforts to persuade the parties to engage in consultations," Yang said.He said the tensions on the peninsular will ease "only if all the parties show their sincerity and make joint efforts.""Stability on the Korean Peninsula is good for all. BEIJING, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) -- A survey conducted by an information center affiliated to Beijing's commerce bureau revealed that retail sales jumped at more than 3,500 stores in the Chinese capital during the 3-day New Year holiday ending Monday, nearly reaching 2.5 billion yuan (about 378 million U.S. dollars), up 17.1 percent from the same period last year.The Beijing Commercial Information Consultation Center surveyed 3,568 stores in Beijing regarding their sales volumes during the past three days, finding that various holiday promotions had brought notable results, pushing up sales to over 2.49 billion yuan.The survey results also showed that consumers in Beijing were passionate about buying gold, since gold prices have kept rising during the past year. BEIJING, Nov. 10 (Xinhua)-- China will issue new judicial rules governing sentencing standards for cyber attack crimes by the end of this year, an official of the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) told Xinhua Wednesday.China has become a major victim of online crimes such as hacker attacks, with eight out of every ten computers in the country having suffered botnet attacks, said Gu Jian, vice director of the Internet security bureau of the MPS.Botnet is a network of computers that have had malicious software installed in them and are under the control of criminals, while the owners of the computers remain unaware of the computer hacking.China criminalized attacks on computer systems in 1997, and made specific provisions on hacker attacks, such as outlawing the illegal control of another computer, in its seventh amendment to the Criminal Law in 2009.In most botnet cases in China, the controllers were found to be located abroad, Gu said.Moreover, more than 80 percent of the cyber attacks targeting websites of China's government agencies came from overseas, Gu said.Gu called for more international cooperation in fighting transnational online crimes at the fourth U.S.-China Internet Industry Forum which concluded Tuesday in Beijing.At the forum, China and the U.S. agreed to strengthen international law enforcement in combating cyber crimes, improve international cooperation mechanisms in this regard, and enhance communication on fighting cyber crimes.In addition to cyber attacks, other kinds of major online crimes included online pornography, online gambling and online fraud, Gu added.
