A year and a half after the company removed artificial colors and flavors from its Trix cereal, it's bringing them back."Classic Trix" -- the bright, rainbow version from your childhood -- will hit shelves in October, the company announced Thursday.The news was first reported by the Wall Street Journal.The all-natural Trix -- called "No, No, No" Trix -- will still be available to consumers who want to cut factory-made dyes from their diet. That version gets its more muted coloring from fruit and vegetable juices and spice extracts, like turmeric and annatto, which is derived from the achiote tree.General Mills announced in 2015 that it would remove artificial flavors and colors from all its cereals."We're simply listening to consumers and these ingredients are not what people are looking for in their cereal today," Jim Murphy, president of the company's cereal division, said in a statement at the time.The changes to Trix took effect in January, 2016.But fans of that earlier recipe for Trix believe they were misheard."Our Trix fans have been calling us, emailing us and reaching out to us on social media asking if we would consider bringing back the original formulation of Trix cereal with its vibrant colors. As a result, we are launching 'Classic Trix' to fill these consumer requests," General Mills spokesman Mike Siemienas said Thursday to explain the change.Siemienas said the company doesn't have any plans to change up the ingredients in its other cereals. Artificial flavoring and coloring has also been removed from Reese's Puffs, Cocoa Puffs, Golden Grahams, Chocolate Cheerios, Frosted Cheerios and Fruity Cheerios since the 2015 announcement.The back and forth comes at a tough time for the cereal business.General Mills reported lower quarterly earnings than expected on Wednesday, with overall sales down 4%. It was the ninth consecutive quarter that revenue fell when compared to the year before.The problem: Americans just aren't consuming as much cereal for breakfast. General Mills' cereal sales in the U.S. fell 7% from one year ago, the company said.Competitor Kellogg faces similar problems. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Two assisted living facilities in St. Petersburg have been shut down after deplorable conditions were discovered.The St. Petersburg Police Department said they shut down two assisted living facilities after they discovered they had no running water, no power and broken windows. Officers said they also found drug paraphernalia.The two facilities are both run by Tampa Bay Behavioral Health.Officers said nine disabled adults have been displaced. SHELLTOWN (CNS) - A 21-year-old man broke his right femur today when he crashed his car into a median in Shelltown.It occurred at 12:30 a.m., according to Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department.The driver was speeding westbound along Division Street and crashed when he was midway through the 700 block, Heims said.He was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.Anyone with information is encouraged to call SDPD at 619-531-2000 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 503

Sounds of gunfire prompted emergency calls and a lockdown at a North Carolina high school, but a public information officer says there is currently no evidence of an active shooter.Officials with the Pender County Sheriffs' Office are still searching Topsail High School as a precaution, and Pender Schools remain on lockdown.The high school went into lockdown at 6:30 a.m. ET due to reports of the sounds of gunfire. Pender Schools confirmed in a tweet that it was investigating an active shooter at Topsail High School at about 8 a.m. It added that all of the district's campuses on the "eastern side of Pender County" are on lockdown.Pender Schools later confirmed that the noises "from the top of the building" were mistaken for gunfire. They added that it was determined that there was no weapon and no shooter.There currently are no reports of injuries.More on this as it develops. 930
