But do they really look that different?It's called the Beauty in Real Life campaign. CVS says the goal of this campaign is to create a new and more realistic standard of beauty. The way you can tell if an ad is a part of the campaign is it has a CVS Beauty Mark, a white stamp watermark that reads beauty unaltered.If you see the stamp on an ad it means that the images in the ad haven't been "materially altered." That means the brand did not "digitally alter or change a person's shape, size, proportion, skin or eye color or enhance or alter lines, wrinkles or other individual characteristics."So essentially if you saw the person in the ad walking down the street, they would look like they do in the ad. That's the goal, because in general, the editing of photos in ads really has has an impact on how women and girls feel about themselves.A survey found two out of three women strongly agree that the media has set an unrealistic standard of beauty. 80% of women feel worse about themselves after seeing a beauty ad. 90% of girls ages 15 to 17 want to change at least one aspect of their physical appearance.We asked a few people what they think about this new initiative."I think that's awesome," one woman said.  "I think we've been given unrealistic beauty standards for a really long time. So it's really nice to see companies putting in women who actually look like me. I don't have to have these unrealistic standards of what I should look like. I think it's a really awesome thing."Other women felt differently."Non touching is a good start," one woman said. "But if I saw that I would be like, real life? I don't know if I'd look like that in real life."Her friend agreed."When I wake up I do not look like that in real life," the woman said. "So I think like the touch up is a good start, but for that like slogan for the campaign I feel it's sending the wrong message in a way."This campaign is rolling out now digitally and the goal is for all the images in the beauty sections of CVS stores to reflect transparency by the end of 2020. 2339

GREENCASTLE, Indiana — Protesters at DePauw University in Indiana interrupted a press conference meant to discuss recent racist writings on and near campus, one day after students demonstrated at an on-campus event led by actress Jenna Fischer. After five incidents of racial slurs were written across campus in the last two weeks, protesters interrupted actress Jenna Fischer's talk Tuesday night. On Wednesday, university officials held a press conference to discuss the incidents and Tuesday's protest. About 10 minutes into the press conference Wednesday, DePauw President Mark McCoy learned about protesters outside the doors, wanting inside. McCoy and the other officials allowed the protesters inside, where they chanted, "Meet our demands. We are not safe." For about 20 more minutes, McCoy and the group discussed the incidents, and what the university is doing to stop future incidents from happening. "We are all together addressing every issue that has happened on this campus," McCoy said. "We are committed to addressing these issues. DePauw has made so many efforts to address this and has still fallen short."McCoy eventually became visibly frustrated by the interruptions from the crowd.Fischer was on DePauw's campus to promote her book, "The Actor's Life: A Survival Guide."Watch the full press conference, protest and discussion in the video below. From disproportionately ticketing students of color to mishandling special needs children, some school districts say School Resource Officers, more commonly called SROs, should no longer be in the halls.For Heidi Laursen and her son, Jack, who live in Colorado, the presence of officers in the young boy’s elementary school created a traumatic environment.“I wish they would’ve recognized that he was having trouble,” said Laursen, the mother of the special needs student.Laursen never imagined her son would have such big problems with the police in school.“When they couldn’t handle him or didn’t know what to do with him, they sent him to the security officer,” said Laursen.Laursen said her son was in kindergarten when he began coming home from school unhappy.“He would say, ‘I’m a bad kid, I’m a bad kid, you should get rid of me,'” she said. “And he was 5,” said Heidi.In the process of waiting to get Jack assessed for a special needs class, Laursen got called to the school to pick her son up.“I walked in and he was across the classroom from me by the windows being held by two officers by his feet and his hands, and he was writhing in the air between them,” she said.It’s a sight she said can’t erase from her mind. “I can talk about it now without crying, but I couldn’t for a long time,” said Laursen.Laursen and many other parents and students who have had similar experiences say something needs to change with how schools police students.After much public discussion, Denver Public Schools voted to remove police officers from schools.“While we leaned on the SROs for the ideals of safety, our students were getting ticketed at very high rates, particularly students of color, and another group of students who are handcuffed a lot are special needs students,” said the school board’s vice president, Jennifer Bacon.Bacon said the district is forming a task force to change that reality. “That looks like, mental health support in buildings, social workers in buildings, counselors and academic support,” said Bacon. The task force will spend the next year and a half forming solutions.Currently, there are 18 Denver Police officers working as SROs in Denver Public Schools. The board voted to take that number down by 25 percent by the end of this calendar year, and by the end of next school year, there will no longer be a permanent police presence in Denver Schools.“It’s not lost on us the work we have to do around safety, but safety is also culture, and this is the time we need to talk to children about their feelings,” said Bacon. “We’ll also talk to our staff about preventative measures for students who have ideations of suicide or community harm.”“I think there’s a positive way to support kids that doesn’t have to be with the threat of law,” said Laursen.Bacon said her own experience with law enforcement in school shaped her vision for the future.“When people heard what school I went to, they had an assumption about me,” said Bacon. “That I couldn’t be an honors student, that they had to clutch their purses…and part of that was reinforced by having police officers in my schools and not having officers in schools that were predominantly white."That emotional impact is something Bacon hopes will be erased for students like Jack.“To the extent that little schools can do something to tell them that their lives matter, that if they’re in crisis, if they’re hungry, doesn’t mean they’ll be met with handcuffs, is incredibly powerful. And we will take every opportunity to reset young people’s expectations on how they’ll be treated,” said Bacon.Laursen agrees. Changing our society starts with reshaping the way our young people grow up. “It does take time to find the right solution, but it’s possible,” she said. 3761

  

GREEN BAY, Wisc. — A man was arrested for his seventh OWI after police say he threw stolen beer and meat out of his van with officers in pursuit. The Brown County Sheriff's Office received a call from a supermarket that Timothy Andrews, who was on their watch list for retail theft, was in the store. Authorities spotted Andrews inside a van in the parking lot and deputies say he claimed to have knives and gun when they approached him.Andrews refused to get out of the van, according to investigators, and sped away from the deputies, throwing stolen beer, meat and clothing out of the window during the high-speed chase. Authorities say the van lost control at least twice during the chase, as it weaved in and out of oncoming traffic on busy streets. "Pursuits are always a balance. You're always trying to balance public safety with the apprehension of the person. And in this case, this man was doing a lot of things," Brown County Sheriff's Capt. Dan Sandberg said. The van finally spun out of control and stopped on a residential street where the suspect was arrested. Andrews, 48, faces several charges in the case including 7th offense OWI, probation violation, obstructing an officer, shoplifting and retail theft.   1280
