BEIJING, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- China expressed its deep concern over Japanese right-wing demonstration at the Chinese Embassy in Tokyo on Saturday, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu.Ma made the remarks when asked to comment on the demonstration by hundreds of Japanese right-wing organization members at the Chinese Embassy in Tokyo Saturday afternoon."China urges Japan to earnestly fulfill the related obligations laid out in the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and take effective measures to ensure the security of China's embassy, consulates, institutions and personnel in Japan," Ma said in a press statement.China-Japan relations have been strained since a collision occurred between two Japanese Coast Guard patrol ships and a Chinese trawler on Sept. 7 in the East China Sea off the Diaoyu Islands, over which China claims sovereignty. In Tokyo, the right-wing groups had planned to mobilize 3,000 people to gather in front of the Chinese Ambassy to "clarify Japanese's attitude on the issue," according to a report on ifeng.com.

TIANJIN, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- China's top climate change official Thursday called for compromise from all parties to seek the biggest common ground during the UN climate talks while developed and developing countries remained divided on many issues.Parties at the talks should rebuild mutual trust and improve sense of responsibility as climate change is a global issue affecting every country, Xie Zhenhua, vice minister of the National Development and Reform Commission, told the press on the sidelines of a new round of UN climate talks held in Tianjin from Oct. 4 to 9."The best result of the global climate talks may be a solution that dissatisfies every one but is accepted by all," he said. "To reach the result, every party needs compromise and work to find the biggest common ground. If one country refuses to do anything and ask others to do many, this is definitely not acceptable."When asked about one of the most controversial issue on how to manage the fast start fund, Xie said, as a developing country, China is fully qualified to receive funds and technical supports from developed countries."But, provided that the amount of current fast start fund is much less than what developing countries need, China would not compete with those who need the money most such as the least developing countries and island countries," he said.Jonathan Pershing, who leads the U.S. negotiators at the Tianjin meeting, said on Thursday that there should be a differentiation between offering finance for developing countries as some countries clearly have enormous capabilities, even though they are listed in the developing country list, while some countries, although in the developing country list, have virtually no capabilities.Countries like China can do a great deal, and have made very clear that they intend to do a great deal, he told reporters."It (China) has made commitment that was made on a series of actions on intensity, on renewable energy and on forests that are examples of what a really powerful country with enormous commitment can deliver," he said.Xie Zhenhua said China will also provide as much assistance to these countries as it is able to, through South-South cooperation."We are not only saying it but have also begun doing it. In the past few years, we have provided training programs to people from least developed countries and worked with them in programs to cope with climate changes," Xie said. However, Xie strongly argued that developed countries should actually add new money in the fast start fund as a majority of current identified fast start fund was in fact included in the existing Official Development Assistance (ODA).

BEIJING, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- China's safety record has improved in the first nine months of 2010 with fewer accidents and deaths compared with one year ago, Luo Lin, director of the State Administration of Work Safety (SAWS), said Wednesday. From January to September this year, China reported 16,091 fewer accidents, or a decline of 5.8 percent over the previous year, while deaths caused by accidents were down by 5,869 in the same period, Luo said during a a national video conference regarding the country's work safety record. While Luo did not provide the actual figures of accidents or deaths caused during this period, he said: "Though we have made new progress in work safety, the total number of accidents is still too high and the accidents with heavy casualties and caused by illegal production activities were rising dramatically."According to SAWS, China's work safety death ratio per 100 million yuan (14.9 million U.S. dollars) of gross domestic product (GDP) was down 18.6 percent year on year to 0.21 during the January-September period. In other words, every 10 billion yuan of China's GDP will cause 21 deaths in the process of production. In addition, the death ratio per million tonne of coal output dropped 13.3 percent to 0.78 in the same period.According to the last figures released by SAWS in July, workplace accidents had killed 33,876 people in the first half of this year.

BEIJING, Sept. 20 (Xinhuanet) -- Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group on Sunday turned down the suggestion by Yahoo chief executive officer Carol Bartz that she be allowed to join the board of Alibaba, replying that Bartz should focus on improving Yahoo's own business first.Wang Shuai, chief marketing officer of Taobao.com under the group, said he has been "perplexed" by Bartz's decisions and attitudes since she became CEO of Yahoo in January 2009, claiming: "They demonstrate a lack of appreciation of the Internet, the mainland market and business partners."In response to Bartz's suggestion that she join the board of Alibaba, Wang said: "Perhaps it would not be a bad idea for her to concentrate her efforts on improving Yahoo's current situation."On Friday, Bartz touted Yahoo's 39 percent investment in Alibaba, a day after the Chinese Internet company said Yahoo had rejected its offer to sell the stake back to the group. The 62-year-old executive said the ideal time for Yahoo to exit from Alibaba will be after Taobao.com and Alipay.com, Alibaba's online shopping and payment subsidiaries, go public. She added that she will "probably" join the company's board later this year, when Yahoo gets a second seat on the board under its 2005 agreement with the company.Wang said on Sunday that Alibaba had no plans for Taobao.com to go public.Alibaba sold a 39 percent stake in the company to Yahoo in 2005 for billion and ownership of Yahoo China. The relationship between the two companies has been deteriorating recently, especially after Bartz replaced Yahoo's co-founder, Jerry Yang, to become chief executive of the company.

BEIJING, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese farmers have begun to reap crops as autumn drew to a close, and the nation is expecting a good harvest this year, China's Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) said here Tuesday in a statement on its website. The forecast is based upon higher average yields and an estimate that China's planting area for autumn crops rose by 10 million Mu (about 667,000 hectares) from one year ago, said the ministry.According to figures from the MOA, a total of 386 million mu of crops had been harvested by Sept. 27, accounting for 33.3 percent of the total. In a break down of the harvest, 130 million mu of rice, or nearly 50 percent of the total rice planted, had been reaped, while 140 million mu of corn and 60.7 million mu of soybean were harvested, accounting for 28.5 percent and 46.5 percent of the total, respectively, said the MOA.The ministry also arranged for 29 million sets of farm equipment to help with the autumn harvest, it said.China's grain output reached 530.8 million tonnes in 2009, the sixth consecutive year of growth in grain yield. In the wake of a severe drought in China's southwestern regions earlier in the year, summer grain output this year stood at 123.1 million tons, down 0.3 percent from one year ago.
