A Five Guys in Daphne, Alabama has fired or suspended several of their employees after they refused to serve local police officers, the restaurant posted on their Facebook page.According to the Daphne Police Department, on July 7 three Daphne officers entered the restaurant and after realizing they forgot to put their masks on due to the restaurant's mask policy, so they returned to their patrol cars and came back inside wearing their masks.According to WJW, when the officers came back into the restaurant, the employees refused to serve them, so they left and went somewhere else to eat.After hearing of the incident, the restaurant closed so the store and its employees could work with the police department "for further education and customer service training." 777

A man is dead after falling off a ladder while cutting a tree branch following Hurricane Irma.Hillsborough County, Florida Fire Rescue responded to Puritan Road in Tampa, at approximately 2:54 p.m. on Thursday, after receiving a call about a person down.Upon arrival, firefighters found 60-year-old John Knight on the ground.According to a witness, Knight was cutting a tree branch when it hit him and knocked him off his ladder, causing him to fall between 20 to 25 feet.Firefighters pronounced Knight dead at the scene. 559

A law professor and author is clearing the air around voting ahead of the big general election in the fall.Kim Waylee wrote “What You Need to Know About Voting and Why” to help people understand our nation’s election system.Waylee says one of the biggest misconceptions is that because of COVID-19, people think they can wait to register. She says there's also a lot of misinformation around voter fraud.“To suggest that there's, you know, there's somehow intrinsic, core problematic issues with fraud is just wrong,” said Waylee. “Plus, we have five states that vote almost exclusively by mail already and there, we haven't seen problems with that. We know how to do this, if there's sufficient funding.”Waylee says funding is a big hurdle for states that are strapped for cash because of the pandemic.More resources could help address issues with voter suppression in areas that have historically not had access.“And that is going to come from federal dollars being put into the system in a way that benefits all Americans,” said Waylee. “Because it's really ‘we the people,’ not we the Republicans and we the Democrats. A Long Island man is facing charges after striking protesters with his vehicle Monday evening at a Black Lives Matter march, police in Suffolk County said.Authorities said Anthony Cambareri, 36, was driving his Toyota RAV4 westbound on Broadway in Huntington Station when he struck two protesters standing in the roadway around 6:45 p.m.The two pedestrians were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.Police said Cambareri fled the scene but was caught moments later.Facebook user Matthew Showtyme posted video on Facebook reportedly of the driver stopped just after the incident.Warning: The below video contains language some readers may find offensive.
