A new technology is coming to airports to help with passenger screening from home to plane. Denver International Airport will soon be the first to test Daon’s IdentityX platform. It creates a digital identity for each passenger that can be used at kiosks and e-gates, then help travelers schedule times to go through security and get to terminals.That digital identity, called Glide, will also include biometric data and be used for passengers to show their health status using a badge on their cell phone. Down the road, the platform could also mean touchless payments at stores and restaurants.“So what we're trying to do is allow people before they come to the airport, maybe for the first time or maybe for every time, to really begin to feel confident that they can control the time and space elements of their journey,” said Chris McLaughlin, Chief Operating Officer at Denver International Airport.The same technology can be used to improve safety for the thousands of staff and TSA officers that come and go from the airport every day. 1051

A rent-control style bill that would cap annual rent increases is advancing in Sacramento.The bill, by Democrat Assemblyman David Chiu, would limit annual rent increases to 5 percent plus inflation. Currently, market landlords in San Diego County can raise the rent as much as they want at the end of a lease. Adam Moody, of Pacific Beach, just saw his rent go up by 0 a month, or 10 percent. "We're thinking about moving somewhere because if it's going to keep increasing, we'd rather maybe get a house or something," said Moody, who lives with his wife. The bill, AB 1482, made it out of the Assembly Appropriations Committee Wednesday. It will now advance to the full assembly floor before moving to the state senate side. With inflation, the cap in San Diego County would be 7.2 percent, which is nearly three times faster than wage growth. Molly Kirkland, public affairs director for the Southern California Rental Housing Association, said the organization opposes the bill. She said legislation like this turns off developers from building more much-needed housing, and can lead to the current supply going unrepaired. "The five percent plus CPI (inflation) may be enough if you don't have significant operational costs, if you don't need a new roof, but that's not a certainty," she said.Moody says he supports the cap. A north Georgia high school teacher was arrested on Wednesday after he barricaded himself in a classroom and fired a shot from his handgun out of a window, police said.No one was injured in the incident at Dalton High School, except for a student who injured an ankle running through the school, police spokesman Bruce Frazier said.The shooting about 85 miles north of Atlanta heightened the already tense debate around guns in schools in the wake of the deadly mass shooting in Parkland, Florida two weeks ago.The incident began about 11:30 a.m. when Randal Davidson, a 53-year-old social studies teacher, refused to let students into his classroom, Frazier said. When the principal put a key in the door in an attempt to enter, Davidson fired a shot from a handgun through an exterior window of the classroom, according to Frazier.The school immediately went into lockdown, and police quickly arrived and evacuated the immediate area around his classroom. After about 30 to 45 minutes, Davidson agreed to surrender to authorities and was taken into custody without further incident, Frazier said.Frazier said there was no evidence that Davidson was trying to fire at anyone."It certainly seemed like he didn't have any intention to harm anybody else," Frazier said.Davidson had been a teacher at Dalton since 2004 and was the play-by-play radio announcer for the high school's football team, Frazier said.
