A mother in Mesa, Arizona is voicing concern after her child's 4th-grade teacher changed words in the Declaration of Independence, and made the students recite the altered version in class.The teacher at Salk Elementary school crossed out the words "man" and substituted it with "human".The mother, Elizabeth Vaillencourt said the teacher's goal may have been to include women as well, but she went too far in altering a historical document.When Vaillencourt took this concern to school officials, she was initially told she had "hurt the teacher's feelings" by posting about it on social media.The school reacted by removing Vaillencourt's child from that teacher's classroom, and placing them under a different teacher.On Wednesday, Vaillencourt said the superintendent's office contacted her to tell her what the teacher did was against school policy.A Mesa Public Schools spokeswoman says they have policies in place when it comes to school ceremonies which includes reciting the Declaration of Independence. 1030

A proposed bill moving through California's legislature would — hopefully — eliminate fears of an awful driver's license photo.SB-1407 would allow drivers to have the ultimate say in their license photo. The bill would let drivers take up to three pictures at the Department of Motor Vehicles and then choose which one they like best.Drivers would also be allowed to have their photo taken outside of the DMV by a pre-approved photography center.While all of this sounds great for drivers who loathe their license photo, it could come at a cost. The bill says there would be an extra fee for each additional photo but didn't specify how much. That revenue would be put toward driver's education programs at public schools.So far, the bill has passed through the state Senate Transportation Committee Tuesday and has been referred next to the Committee on Appropriations. 888

A new medical device promises to diagnose a concussion in under four minutes and its creators are backed by a unique partnership between the NFL's Green Bay Packers and Microsoft.The world of traumatic brain injuries and concussions is filled with gray matter. The diagnosis is subjective and every doctor manages it differently as the injury is just as complex as the brain.“When you have a heart attack and go into the ER, you get five objective tests. If you get a brain injury and you go into the ER, you get, ‘Follow my finger, what month is it, who’s the president?’ We have to do better for brain-injured patients,” Dr. Rosina Samadani, CEO of Oculogica, said.Samadani developed a device called the "Eye Box.” Her sister, a neurosurgeon, discovered the technology.“Where it really came from was noticing that when there’s a deficit in the cranial nerves, there is a deficit in eye movements and there is that same deficit that occurs in concussed patients.,” Samadani said.So, she created an algorithm based on those eye movements, which is how the Eye Box was born.“We’re looking at your pupils, we’re tracking them and having you perform a simple task,” Samadani said. “You watch a video as it moves around the screen and we watch your eyes watching that video and that’s it.”The sisters took the idea to TitletownTech.“We look for exceptional founders who are solving meaningful problem,” said Jill Enos, the managing director of TitletownTech.The venture capital fund builds and invests in startups.“TitletownTech was formed out of this improbable partnership between the Green Bay packers and Microsoft, both of whom shared a common interest in advancing the technology capabilities of the region but also in leveraging the strength of startups and founders as economic drivers in the regional economy,” Enos said.Enos says Oculogica immediately caught their attention. A St. Louis couple who waved guns at peaceful protesters near their property earlier this year will speak in support of President Donald Trump next week at the Republican National Convention, The Washington Post, NPR and CNN report.The couple will reportedly deliver remarks remotely, as in-person portions of the convention have been canceled.Mark and Patricia McCloskey gained national attention in late June as Black Lives Matter protesters marched toward the home of St. Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson. Krewson and the McCloskeys live in a private, gated community.Though the protesters were peaceful and staying away from the McCloskey's mansion, the couple emerged from their homes with firearms and ordered protesters to leave.Various social media videos show Patricia McCloskey pointing a small handgun at protesters. Mark McCloskey carried a long gun.In July, the couple was charged with unlawful use of a weapon for waving the guns in a "threatening" manner. Both have maintained their innocence, saying they were afraid for their lives and were simply protecting themselves.The White House has previously expressed support for the couple. Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany said in July that the charges against the McCloskeys were "absurd." Missouri Gov. A prank gone wrong landed two men in jail and has potentially scarred a little girl for life.At about 10 p.m. local time on Saturday, 25-year-old Vernon Barrett was wearing a clown mask and chasing his 6-year-old daughter outside their apartment in Boardman, Ohio, according to Youngstown's WKBN-TV.According to witnesses, the girl, obviously terrified, was screaming and ran into the unlocked apartment of neighbor Dion Santiago, 48.According to WFMJ-TV, Santiago told police that when the girl ran in to his apartment, he looked out the window and saw a man in a clown mask on the lawn. Santiago then grabbed his gun and fired a warning shot out the window.When police arrived at the scene, Barrett told them he was "playing a prank" on his daughter, according to WFMJ.WKBN reported that Barrett told officers he was trying to scare the girl because she'd been having behavioral issues at school and he thought this would straighten her out.Barrett was arrested for child endangering and inducing panic.
