SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Border agents arrested 15 people over Presidents’ Day weekend during a smuggling event in Mission Bay.U.S. Border Patrol agents caught the smuggling incident in action on Saturday at about 2 p.m. at a Ski Beach launch ramp. As agents got closer, they say they noticed a large group of people quickly exiting the boat and heading for three vehicles.Agents stopped the individuals from getting away and questioned all 15 people involved in the incident.Agents say six people in the group were suspected of human smuggling and arrested. Five of them are U.S. citizens, including four men ranging from 20 to 30 years old and one 25-year-old woman, according to border officials.The nine other people arrested were male Mexican nationals ranging from 27 to 41 years old who admitted to being illegally present.U.S. Border Patrol seized the boat and three vehicles at the scene. 899

Brothers Zach and Asher Swazey are putting together their own newscasts.Its called “SGN San Diego.” The newscast is filled with good news.“You want to have something that will affect people in a positive way,” says 13-year-old Zach.The brothers are now working on episode two. They say it was a lot of work putting everything together.“It took us 2-3 weeks,” says ten-year-old Asher. “We went through multiple stages of editing. It took a little of time to make the script and film.”The boys say they were inspired to start SGN San Diego after watching actor and filmmaker John Krasinski on Youtube.The boys say their video is getting more views, but their headline is to make people feel good.“When you’re making a YouTube channel, it’s not about how many likes you get or how many subscribers, it’s how it affects people.”The brothers say their parents are also a big help. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — As President Trump and Democratic lawmakers battle over funding for the president's border wall project, construction at the border is already slated to begin early this year.Texas-based construction company SLSCO was awarded 7 million last month for a series of wall projects along the U.S.-Mexico border in California beginning in February. The contracts include up to 14 miles of secondary wall and 15 miles of primary pedestrian replacement wall in the San Diego, Yuma, and El Centro sectors.A Border Patrol spokesperson said construction of a primary pedestrian wall was already approved, though could not comment as to whether secondary wall construction was previously approved or tied directly to President Trump's Executive Order for a continuous border wall.RELATED: Roughly 150 migrants attempt to climb border fence, throw rocks at Border Patrol agentsIn February 2019, construction on 14 miles of secondary wall will start adjacent to San Diego's primary fence replacement project that is currently underway. That primary fence construction began in June about one-half mile from the Pacific Ocean, extending east to the base of Otay Mountain. SLSCO is also in charge of that project.Then in July 2019, construction on 15 miles of pedestrian replacement wall will start, with 11 miles in Calexico, three miles in Tecate, and one mile in Andrade. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Caltrans is alerting San Diegans of a closure that will shut down SR-163 Wednesday and Thursday nights.According to the agency, all lanes of SR-163 will close between Interstate 8 and Genesee Avenue between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday nights.Caltrans says the northbound lanes will close Wednesday night and the southbound lanes will shut down Thursday night. At no time will the road close in both directions at the same time.RELATED: Check traffic conditionsSome of the lanes will begin closing at 7 p.m. with all the lanes closing by 11 p.m. The closure will also include the eastbound and westbound I-8 connector ramps to northbound SR-163. The eastbound Friars Road on-ramp to northbound SR-163 will also be closed.Caltrans says all southbound motorists will be rerouted to southbound I-805. Northbound travelers will be rerouted to eastbound I-8.The closures will take place so crews can continue installing falsework on the Friars Road Bridge. 1002

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Barrio Logan businesses are moving outdoors on Saturday in hopes of bringing in some revenue. The businesses are hosting the first Walk the Block, which will include outdoor dining, live music and shopping. The business were struggling because of pandemic closures and they tell ABC 10News that they decided to get permits to be able to serve and sell to customers outdoors. All social distancing and mask rules will apply. Walk the Block will go on from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. from Chicano Park to 26th Street. 536
