THOREAU, N.M. (AP) — New Mexico authorities say multiple people have been killed in a commercial passenger bus crash along Interstate 40.New Mexico State Police did not say how many people died or how many were injured in Thursday's crash.They said passengers were transported to a hospital and a phone number was set up for family members seeking more information about people who were aboard the bus.The wreckage included a Greyhound bus with front-end damage and a semi-truck that was on its side and with its cargo strewn across the highway and the median.Greyhound says the bus was heading from Albuquerque to Phoenix and there were 47 passengers on board.Spokeswoman Crystal Booker says it's unclear what caused the crash.The crash forced the closure of the westbound lanes of the interstate and traffic was backing up as travelers were being diverted. 866

There are now 286 cases of possible and confirmed acute flaccid myelitis in the United States this year, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.That includes 116 confirmed cases of the rare polio-like illness, also known as AFM, that leads to sudden onset of paralysis. That's 10 more confirmed cases than the agency reported a week ago. An additional 170 possible cases of AFM are under investigation.More than 90% of the 440 patients with AFM since 2014 have been children younger than age 4. Most of the children with confirmed cases experienced a viral illness with symptoms including fever and cough about three to 10 days before the onset of paralysis, the CDC said this month. 715

Today would be a normal drive to work for Amelia Caceres — except her house is surrounded by police tape. Adrian Perez helped her get out, both still in shock after hearing the brand new bridge outside their home collapsed."We were some of the first people on the front,” Caceres said. “And we saw the cars crushed underneath it was really horrifying, so it was really scary.”“My mind just does not captivate that that happened,” Perez said.Caceres and Perez saw the scene unfold, in disbelief. “It’s kind of like surreal,” Perez said. “Like it was a movie. There was a woman — I guess that she was trapped in the car like under the car .. she was crying hysterically. It was just really strange.”What made it even more strange for these two is that they had just watched the bridge go up days before.“It was just up. It was done,” Caceras said. “And it seemed almost like it was amazing that they had done it so quickly.”The bridge was designed to provide a safe way for students at Florida International University, like Perez, to cross a busy highway."I was really excited about this bridge because I was like finally I won’t have to go through the death trap that is eighth street crossing," Perez said. "Now, that’s kind of ironic."Carlos Devarona lives less than a mile away, and travels the street every day.“You have a blind faith in construction,” Devarona said. “You never think something like this is going to happen.”Watching the scene left him with even more questions, specifically why officials chose to perform a stress test in the moments before the collapse. “Not above live traffic  — you don’t do that,” Devarona said. “It just should never happen.”As investigators work to answer the many questions surrounding the collapse, Perez and Caceras, like so many others, wait for answers.“I’m sure that they did what was needed to get done,” Perez said. “I don’t think anyone would do something like this purposefully. Now one Cheektowaga, New York girl is using the lemonade she makes to buy happiness for other children. Eight year-old Abby Jacques was devastated when she found out someone stole her brand new bike from her home on Cleveland Drive, so she decided to take action. She set up a lemonade stand to raise money for a new bike. Word about what happened to Abby spread on social media.After Erie County Comptroller, Stefan Mychajliw posted a photo on Facebook, the community pitched in to help Abby get a new set of wheels.Mychajliw and Howard Cadmus, owner of Sweet Jenny's in Williamsville, split the cost of a new bike.You can still find Abby outside of her home selling lemonade, but now to help others.All of Abby's future lemonade sales will be given to children in need of bikes and helmets at the Seneca Babcock Community Center.For those looking to support Abby, a PayPal account has been set up.  1007
