CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) - A photographer in Carlsbad is helping to preserve the memory of the Greatest Generation, one portrait at a time.John Riedy works with The Greatest Generations Foundation. The group takes Veterans back to the battlefields on which they fought.During the trips, Riedy takes a portrait of each vet on their battlefield."It helps them realize that we’re not going to forget these guys," Riedy says. "When they’re gone, their legacies are going to live on."Over the last 12 years, Riedy has gone on nearly 50 trips with the Foundation and taken close to 300 portraits.For the 75th Anniversary of D-Day, he chose 75 of his favorite to hang in two galleries near Normandy and Omaha Beach."I think they were blown away to see their portraits up there," Riedy says of the reaction the Vets had when they got a first look at the galleries.Riedy says it's his personal way to honor the sacrifices they made."When you step onto Omaha beach, or you go to that cemetery at Omaha, and you see what they were up against when you see those cliffs, it's awe-inspiring," he says. "It’s like a switch flipped inside me. From them on I knew this was going to be my calling."Riedy and the Foundation have started to expand the program beyond World War II Veterans. CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- Two siblings, one brother and one sister, had their children at Cape Coral Hospital on the same day, within hours of one another.Kenia Pozo and her older brother Marcus had a daughter and a son on May 14th.Pozo and her brother's girlfriend Katery Lara, gave birth after two subsequent cesarean sections. Pozo was scheduled to have hers first and give birth to a girl, Michaela Rose, just before 8 a.m. Lara gave birth to a boy, Kaiser Alexis, just after 11 a.m. the same day.The two women say they grew especially close during their pregnancies. Initially, Lara was due on May 26th and Pozo was due May 27th. Both women initially thought that they would give birth at least a day apart from one another. Pozo and Lara, who both have the same doctor, discovered they were going to deliver on the same day after scheduling their surgeries. The women said they were happy to have gone through the experience together and they hope their children will share a special bond because of how they came into the world.  1093

CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. (KGTV) — One man was killed early Thursday after his vehicle overturned and he was thrown from the vehicle in the North County.The crash occurred just before 5 a.m. on southbound Interstate 5, south of Basilone Rd., according to California Highway Patrol. CHP believes the 40-year-old driver of a Toyota 4-Runner was traveling southbound when for unknown reasons, he left the roadway. The vehicle overturned and the man was thrown from the SUV.CHP, Camp Pendleton Fire Department, and North County Transit District responded to the scene, but the man died at the scene. He was not immediately identified.Investigators said they don't believe alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash, and are still looking into the crash. 755

CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) - Another local city has decided to back the federal government's lawsuit against California's sanctuary state laws.Carlsbad's City Council voted Monday to support the Trump Administration's lawsuit against the state. Carlsbad is the third local jurisdiction to back the lawsuit, joining Escondido and San Diego County.Carlsbad will also formalize its support in a resolution to be voted on at its next meeting and issue a "friend of the court" brief to join the lawsuit.RELATED: 2 San Diego County leaders meet with Trump regarding California sanctuary lawsThe city says the vote will not have an immediate effect on local enforcement.
