THATTA, Pakistan, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Sunday visited a mobile hospital set up by a Chinese search and rescue team in south Pakistan's Thatta, commending China's relief efforts for flood victims.The 55-member Chinese rescue team have set up tents and a mobile hospital at Thatta police headquarters late Saturday to provide medical services to the flood victims after they arrived at the district, about 100 km northeast of Karachi, Sindh Province.Thatta is now the worst flood-hit district where hundreds of thousands of people have been affected. China is the first foreign country to have sent a relief team to this region."They are working for humanity of the people who are suffering water-borne diseases...That is what we require now," Malik told Xinhua with reference to the team members who are mostly experienced doctors and nurses."They have very good medical facilities and good doctors. I think that is the best China could do," Malik said."China is always the truest and good friend (of Pakistan), and I always say 'Long live the Pakistan-China friendship'," he said.China has provided a total of 120 million yuan (17.7 million U.S. dollars) worth of humanitarian supplies to Pakistan in three batches.

NANJING, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Sunday urged China to keep moving down the path of sustainable development and put greater emphasis on social equity and environmental sustainability.Addressing students of Nanjing University in east China's Jiangsu Province, Ban said as the world's most populous country with the fastest growing economy, China has become the world's largest manufacturer and exporter but also the greatest emitter of greenhouse gases."Seven of the world's 10 most-polluted cities are in China. Your environmental footprint is growing daily," Ban said, adding that fortunately China is beginning to fight the side-effects of prosperity -- climate change and environmental degradation -- besides poverty.The UN chief noted that many of these development problems were raised during discussions as Chinese leaders recently met to draw the 12th Five-Year Plan for economic and social development of the country from 2010 to 2015.Ban applauded the Chinese government's goal of leading the country into an all-around Xiaokang society, or well-off society, by 2020 and said making Xiaokang a reality will, perhaps, ultimately become China's "great export -- its gift to humankind.""You already have a concept for it... Let China be the country to show the way ahead. WENZHOU, Zhejiang, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- At least 246 tourists remain stranded on an island in east China's Zhejiang Province Tuesday as tropical storms and a typhoon cut off ship ferrying services Monday, local authorities said.The tourists, including six Russians and 26 students, have to stay in hotels in Nanji Island, a popular tourist destination in Wenzhou City of Zhejiang, after local transport authorities suspended ship services Monday due to strong gales triggered by two approaching tropical storms and typhoon Kompasu.Officials have said that room charges have been cut by up to 86 percent, to 40 yuan (5.9 U.S. dollars) per day, for the tourists. Also, local government workers are trying to help the Russians solve visa problems and book new flight tickets.Ship routes are expected to reopen after the wind weakens.
