MILWAUKEE -- A Milwaukee family is devastated by the sudden loss of a young man. 21-year-old Nasir Matthews collapsed and died Tuesday while playing pick-up basketball. Terrell Matthews was there as his cousin and best friend fell to the ground after a game."The second game ended, he went over to the fan, leaned over for a second and he just went out," Matthews said. "Everything started happening so fast."Matthews said at first, everyone thought he was joking around. "After about 30 seconds they all started to see his eyes were just a blank stare," Matthews said.Matthews called 911 as others tried to revive him with a defibrillator at the school. Despite their efforts, Matthews was pronounced dead a short time later."At this point, we don't know why he fell out," said Matthews' aunt Camille Rose. "He didn't have any known medical condition other than an enlarged heart." Rose said this brings another round of grieving for Matthews' younger siblings who can't seem to catch a break. "The kids were all trying to deal with the loss of their mother, their grandmother and basically their father," Rose said.  Through the tears, Matthews looks back at the memories he shared with his cousin. "He was always happy, even through what he's been through," Matthews said.  The tragedy serves as a painful reminder to never take a loved one for granted, no matter their age. Matthews' family is still waiting on autopsy results to find out exactly why he died.  1522

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A spokesman with Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) says unless changes are made to the city’s pandemic plan, there’s very little officers can do to enforce mandates at a private residence.The party, which caught the attention of Chad Boseman and his friend Andy, happened across the street from their house on Fern Ave. in East Nashville Saturday evening.“There was just tons of everything. Whatever you can think of a party, just times 20,” Andy said.They weren’t sure what they were seeing at first when people began lining up at the door. All they knew was they wanted to see for themselves. They walked over to find a party with what they say was easily more than 200 people.“I’m still recovering from this night,” Andy said.Promoted as the big unveiling for The Fashion House intended for photoshoots, people showed up to snap pics and even get tattoos.Boseman and company say they were there from 11 P.M. to 3 A.M. before MNPD officers arrived. Boseman says once people noticed cars were being towed, people began to leave.When approached by reporters, one of the homeowners declined to comment.Later in the day, one person claiming to be a homeowner posted a Facebook message saying he contacted police beforehand, and there were no violations. The homeowner ended the statement with “nothing illegal was done or the police would have stopped it.”MNPD said officers wrote citations for those parked illegally in neighboring driveways, but they did not write any citations related to the coronavirus mask mandate.Metro Nashville Public Health says it is investigating but won’t say what rules may have been broken.Not that any of the neighbors we talked to were too concerned. More than 190,000 ceiling fans sold at Home Depot in the U.S. and Canada are being recalled after receiving reports that blades were detaching from the fan while in use, which the company said could cause injuries.According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), 182,000 of the Hampton Bay 54-inch Mara Indoor/Outdoor fans were sold in the U.S. in stores and online from April through October 2020. Home Depot also sold 8,800 fans in Canada.The CPSC said 47 reports of the blades detaching have caused two people being struck and four accounts of the blades causing property damage. It was not reported if the people hit were injured.The CPSC said the recalled fans come in matte white, matte black, black, and polished nickel finishes. NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Metro Police have identified the six officers who first responded to the scene of the downtown explosion Christmas morning. City officials say these officers showed up to a "shots fired" call on 2nd Avenue around 5:30 a.m. Upon arrival, an RV on the street played a recording and countdown, saying the vehicle contained a bomb and warning everyone to leave the area. The officers helped several people evacuate before the RV exploded shortly after, around 6:30 a.m."They immediately began knocking on doors, not knowing when the bomb would go off," Chief John Drake said at a press conference Saturday night. "They didn't think of themselves...they thought of the citizens of Nashville. They saved lives today, and their heroism should be noted."
