SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KGTV) -- The California Assembly has voted to ban the manufacture and sale of new fur products.Animal welfare groups have rallied around the bill, arguing the fur industry is inhumane and pointing to alternatives like faux fur.But opponents of the bill have countered that the proposed law would devastate fur retailers and manufacturers. Some California cities, including Los Angeles, San Francisco and Berkeley, have already passed ordinances banning the sale of fur.The New York City council has also considered banning fur sales in America's biggest city. The bill would not include used fur products or furs used for traditional purposes. Leather, cowhide and shearling would be exempt, too.The measure, Assembly Bill 44, now goes to the state Senate. 782

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Eric Hosmer hit three-run doubles in consecutive innings to ruin Madison Bumgarner's Arizona Diamondbacks debut and give the San Diego Padres a 7-2 victory in Jayce Tingler’s first game as manager. The six RBIs tied Hosmer’s career-high and gave 24-year-old right-hander Chris Paddack the win in his first opening day start. Hosmer’s doubles came off Bumgarner in the sixth inning and Kevin Ginkel in the seventh. Both were with two outs. The 30-year-old Bumgarner allowed only two hits before struggling in the sixth. The Friars continue their four-game season-opening series against the Diamondbacks on Saturday.RELATED COVERAGE: Cardboard Padres fans to fill Petco Park's stands during 2020 seasonLocal company to help fill silence during MLB seasonFan hoping to "share" view overlooking Petco Park during baseball season 847

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – A wildlife overpass near Salt Lake City is proving to be successful at helping animals safely migrate over a busy interstate. The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (UDWR) hailed the Parley's Canyon overpass a success in a recent Facebook post, saying it has also helped motorists stay much safer as well.In its Facebook post, UDWR included video that show many animals using the overpass to safely cross to the other side of Interstate 80. Cameras set up along the bridge captured moose, bears, porcupines, squirrels, mountain lions, deer, coyotes, and other critters. The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) and Utah State University have been monitoring the overpass throughout the year. The overpass opened in December 2018. UDOT says it spans six lanes of interstate and was constructed to improve safety on I-80 by reducing wildlife and vehicle collisions.UDOT coordinated with UDWR on the wildlife issues specific to the project, including wildlife migration patterns. While it may be tempting to visit the bridge in an attempt to spot some critters, UDWR says to keep off the overpass and not disturb the animals. 1154

Sad news, coconut water fans. Coca-Cola is stopping production of Zico, according to multiple reports. It’s part of ongoing efforts to slim down the company’s beverage offerings."This decision was not made lightly and comes at a time when we are focused on delivering on our consumers' wants and needs while driving scaled growth across a total beverage portfolio," a spokesperson said in a statement to CNN.Coca-Cola bought Zico in 2013, but it never seemed to catch on, according to media reports, like competitors have. Among them, Vita Coco has reported sales spiking during the pandemic. In March, some stores reported coconut water, touted as a hangover cure or post-workout recovery, flying off of shelves.Coca-Cola has nearly 500 brands around the world. This summer, they said they hope to cut that number by more than half. The company announced earlier this summer it would discontinue Odwalla smoothie drinks and other “zombie brands,” or those not showing growth.A spokesperson this week told media outlets other brands that are being reconsidered include Diet Coke Feisty Cherry, Coke Life and pulling Hubert’s Lemonade from retail stores. They are also looking at discontinuing regional soda brands like Northern Neck Ginger Ale and Delaware Punch, according to the Wall Street Journal. 1308
