SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A sign advertising a block party at the home of a registered sex offender is causing concern in Rancho Bernardo.“We would like to invite you and your kids to a neighborhood get together” read the sign, which was posted outside a home on Bernardo Oaks Drive in the Seven Oaks retirement neighborhood this week.“I always keep an eye on that house because I know there’s a registered sex offender that lives there,” said Susan Sutherland.Sutherland told 10News she looked up her community on the Megan’s Law website four years ago and found a listing for a neighbor who had had been convicted of lewd acts on a child under 14, according to Sutherland“I come from a background of abuse. I can’t live with myself if I allow a child to get hurt. I can’t live with that,” Sutherland said.The sign was posted by the contractor who recently renovated the home, which is owned by the man's mother. 10News reached out to Elor Energy, which said it had no prior knowledge of the man's past. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- An investigation into the death of 19-year-old SDSU student Dylan Hernandez, who died after falling from his bunk bed after a night of partying, has been completed, University Police said Thursday.According to a case submitted to the District Attorney’s Office, detectives concluded that there was no basis to prove manslaughter charges because “Hernandez’s death was an accident, and there was no witness or autopsy evidence supporting the existence of any criminal activity that was causally linked to Hernandez’s death."“There was no basis to prove hazing charges because there were no injuries upon Hernandez’s body that appeared consistent with hazing, and no evidence of student group activities likely to cause serious bodily injury or death, which is statutorily required to prove hazing," the department continued.Now that the criminal investigation has been completed, the university will conduct an administrative review of the circumstances.RELATED:Autopsy report of SDSU student who died after fall from bed releasedCause determined after San Diego State University student diesSan Diego State suspends 14 fraternities after student is hospitalizedUniversity Police also provided its final report to the Center for Student Rights and Responsibilities as well as Student Life & Leadership for a review of the alleged misconduct.“We continue to send our deepest sympathies to the Hernandez family and to others who cared for Dylan Hernandez,” SDSU Police Chief Josh Mays said. “We have taken great care in our investigation, spending months interviewing witnesses and analyzing information to fully understand what took place during the evening.”In January, an autopsy report revealed that Hernandez died of blunt force injuries to his head, ruling his death an accident.University Police say Hernandez received the injuries after reportedly falling out off his bunk bed. He was found unresponsive later that morning and taken to the hospital, where he later died.At the time of the autopsy, a toxicology report also said elevated alcohol levels of 0.06 percent and cannabinoids were found in his system.Following the news of the completed investigation, the university released the following letter to students: 2256

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego veteran took to his camera to escape mental anguish, amplified by the pandemic, and hopes his art sparks happiness in others."I'm looking for beauty, I'm looking for relaxation, things that just bring out positivity," said Brian McClean, who found his love of photography in Alaska while serving in the U.S. Coast Guard."The scenery there is just beautiful, I mean you have wildlife, you have mountains," he said, adding that the foliage was incredible too.Everything around him was an escape. McClean grew up in the heart of Philadelphia and saw the USCG as a ticket to travel. "I was told about it by a State Trooper... I did some research on my own, I was gone within a couple weeks. I thought it looked like a great deal," said McClean.He said it gave him an opportunity to grow.He served for 12 years. During his service, he laid a wreath at the Miramar National Cemetery and was a flag bearer at a 2006 wreath-laying at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier with President George W. Bush. As he transitioned back to civilian life, he took his photography hobby and made it his dream job, a job that was just the right prescription. "[Photography] helps me to focus and have one thing to look at at a time and block out the rest of the world when I'm doing that. Just doing that more often and more often you just kind of realize I'm feeling better, hey the anxiety I thought I've had has gone away all of the sudden," says McClean.McClean developed anxiety from the years in fight or flight in the military. He lost his mom to lung cancer, while serving. He was only 20-years-old.The battle with stress and anxiety became more difficult with the pandemic. McClean said he gets most of his work noticed by networking in person.He launched his photography business in 2017 and had a hard time getting off the ground."To stand out in any kind of capacity is a blessing to me no matter how I've done it," he said.With persistence, he broke through, featured on the 2019-2020 OB Local and set to be on the cover again next year.When people see his work, he hopes they see a big heart."I want them to see someone who does care who does have empathy who does want people to feel good, feel good about themselves, feel good about life, to just feel like there's a purpose," he said.A purpose to do good. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- An exclusive ABC 10News/San Diego Union-Tribune poll shows many City of San Diego voters are still undecided on some important races this November.The poll was conducted by SurveyUSA from Aug. 28-31, five weeks before mail-in voting begins.According to the poll, one of the closest races is for San Diego mayor, as both Democratic candidates -- City Councilwoman Barbara Bry and Assemblyman Todd Gloria -- are within a few percentage points of each other.The poll shows Bry ahead of Gloria 37 percent to 34 percent, with 29 percent undecided.Political analyst Kyra Greene told ABC 10News, “At this point in an election cycle, you would fully expect there would be more differentiation between the two candidates, but I think it’s a tough year because campaigns aren’t able to get out, talk to voters, so there are just a lot more people who are undecided.”Gloria’s campaign representatives said of the poll: “Our campaign has completed two polls recently and both show Todd with a double-digit lead. We are confident in their accuracy and will continue to run a campaign that focuses on finding solutions to the big issues facing San Diego."Bry’s campaign responded: “These results illustrate the dramatic shift in momentum since the March primary, when Assemblyman Gloria received 41 percent of the vote compared to Councilmember Bry's 23 percent.”In the race for San Diego City Attorney, the latest poll shows at least half of San Diego voters are undecided, but incumbent Mara Elliott leads challenger Cory Briggs by 10 percent.Several key ballot measures are set to be decided on Nov. 3, including Measure E and Measure B.Measure E would change the existing height limit on buildings in San Diego’s Midway District.The latest poll numbers are close -- 31 percent in favor of the measure -- but Greene said past voter trends could be an indicator.“The most common thing if people are not sure is they vote against the measure, which makes sense. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A University City mother is looking for answers after her daughter was greeted with pornographic images on two consecutive days of remote learning.Chelsea Butler says it happened during her 14-year-old daugther's remote Physical Education class last Thursday morning. Her daughter is a freshman at University City High School."When she logged in, the screen was filled with pornography. It was being streamed during her Zoom call," said Butler.Butler says her stunned daughter quickly logged off and told her about it."Made her extremely uncomfortable. She was really upset by it," said Butler.Butler emailed the school and got a call back from the assistant principal, along with an email sent by the school. Both confirmed the Zoom bomb and an investigation by school police and the administration."The fact my daughter was exposed to it against her will is very upsetting," said Butler.The next day, her daughter tried to log in -- same time, same class -- only to be greeted by more pornographic images. This time, there were dozens of extra people in the room."They apparently got in by stealing students' screen names and changing them by one letter in order to access the classroom. Her screen name was one of the ones used. That's why she was even more upset," said Butler.The incidents is putting remote learning security under the microscope. Butler says right now, her daughter logs onto a password protected web portal to get her Zoom meeting ID.Her daughter enters a virtual waiting room, before the teacher invites her into the class. Butler isn't sure how, but says the precautions clearly must be enhanced.Across the country, numerous news reports have detailed similar Zoom bombs during remote learning involving pornography. Butler says her daughter won't be going back to that class until changes are made. So far, the school has excused the absences."A student just going to class every day should not have to be exposed to porn," said Butler.ABC 10News has reached out to San Diego Unified School District for a comment and are waiting to hear back. 2097
