BEIJING, June 1 (Xinhuanet) --Beijing on Thursday urged Washington to respect China's interests in the Asia-Pacific region as US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta vowed, on the eve of his Asia trip, that the US will increase its military presence.
"We have made tremendous efforts together with all peace-loving countries and peoples of the world," he said.
Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, who was in Colombia for a two-day official visit, said amid an international situation which is complicated and changeful, "China and Colombia should join hands to push for a just, equitable new international political and economic order."
The ban comes amid an escalating sovereignty dispute between China and the Philippines over Huangyan Island. Tensions started on April 10, when a Philippine warship harassed 12 Chinese fishing vessels that had sailed near the island to seek shelter from inclement weather.
"As the current world economic situation remains very complex and grim, it's a priority task for all the countries to secure the recovery of the global economy," said the vice premier.
