SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Carlos woman's trip to the San Carlos library turned into nightmare after she was bitten by a dog.A large bruise and two puncture marks remain stamped on Tricia Erler's left thigh."I was in total shock," said Erler.On Tuesday afternoon, she had just finished a mind-and-body class inside the library, grabbed some magazines, and was headed into a lounge area to read."I was behind this woman's chair, and she got up abruptly and swung around in one movement ... she sort of fell into me, and I fell into the books. I felt a stabbing pain in my leg. I thought something had stabbed me from her backpack," said Erler.RELATED: Service dog or pet? You're bleeding and there are teeth marks on your leg," said Erler.Nearby, she saw what bit her: a leashed white dog, possibly an Australian Shepard, with black markings on its head. Next to the dog was the woman who had bumped into her. She was in her 20s or 30s with a stocky build. The woman walked out and never came back."I was upset and shaking. You would think you'd be totally safe in a public library," said Erler.Erler just received her second of four shots for a rabies regimen. Definitely feel dogs should be checked," said Erler.Under federal law, dog owners can be asked if the animal is a service dog, but can't be asked for documentation. A city spokesperson says their policy is to ask every animal that enters a library. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A new report from California State University, San Marcos, shows San Diego County's craft beer industry continued its uphill climb last year.In 2018, San Diego County saw its craft brewing family grow to a total of 155 independent craft brewers, bringing the region to a total of 202 operating brewery locations, the report revealed. The study was compiled by CSUSM, the school's Office of Business Research and Analysis, and San Diego Brewers Guild.Data did show that brewery openings slowed starting in 2017, but have rose slightly since.The majority of breweries are packed into Central San Diego, hosting 55% of craft breweries in the county, the report says. The index surveys how respondents feel about barrelage production, distribution, employment, and capital expenditures.The report, adding that San Diego will soon see its own Museum of Beer in 2020, highlights the region's outlook for craft beer, breweries, and the industry's impact.When it comes to the style of beer drinkers prefer most, nationwide IPAs took 25.2% of the market, followed by belgain white (20.6%), other styles (14.5%), seasonal (13.6%), and lagers (11.1%). SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A major crash on state Route 94 in San Diego’s Webster area sent several people to the hospital and caused traffic backups early Monday morning.According to California Highway Patrol, at around 12: 10 a.m., a black sedan traveling on southbound Euclid Avenue somehow veered off the roadway, went down an embankment and onto westbound SR-94.The crash caused a chain reaction of vehicles slamming into the back of the black sedan while the driver was trapped inside.To prevent the pile-up from getting worse, witnesses sprang into action using a light to wave down the traffic.When fire crews arrived, they had to use the jaws of life to remove the driver from her car. She was taken to a hospital with major injuries.Several other drivers were also transported to a hospital with minor injuries.CHP is investigating what caused the black car to lose control and crash. 895

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A previously-deported sex offender who tried to enter the U.S. illegally was arrested Sunday by Border Patrol agents.On July 5 around 1:30 a.m., agents patrolling the U.S./Mexico border near Tecate saw three people enter the U.S. illegally, the agency said.All three men were arrested and, after fingerprinting all three, a records check revealed that one of the men, a 33-year-old Mexican national, had been convicted for sex crimes against a child.According to the agency, the man had been convicted in 2006 of lewd acts upon a child and sentenced to 10 years in prison. He was removed from the U.S. in 2014.The man is currently being held in federal custody pending charges for felony illegal re-entry after deportation, Border Patrol says. 771
