SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Choir members in San Diego have made it their mission to use music to bring comfort to people nearing the end of their lives.Threshold Choir's director, Nadean Burington, started the local chapter in 2011.  It is an a cappella choir that sings for and with those at the thresholds of life.  They sing at the bedside at San Diego hospices, institutions, and private homes.Recently, doctors diagnosed Burington with stage four cancer. She has recently started requesting the choir's services.“It's wonderful. It's a gift back to me now for what I've given to help start it,” Burington said. “I feel well at this point but I want to the music continue for as long as possible.”Burington says the next directors have been picked out. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Boulevard Fitness in University Heights is open for business, with a line of people wrapped around the building waiting to go inside to workout on Tuesday, even though they’re not supposed to be open.Last week, San Diego County Supervisors said the county would be cracking down on businesses that violate public health orders put into place due to the coronavirus pandemic.A gym owner in Ramona was recently charged with several misdemeanors for staying open for indoor workouts. The San Diego County District Attorney’s Office said Peter San Nicolas, owner of Ramona Fitness Center, faces five charges that each carry ,000 fines.However, at Boulevard Fitness, staff members told ABC 10News they’ve had visits from police telling them they should not be open, but nothing more.The gym on El Cajon Boulevard is limiting the number of people inside and increasing cleaning and other measures to try to limit the risk of potential virus exposure to gym members.A San Diego Police Department spokesperson said officers are responding to complaints about businesses that are open when they’re not supposed to be, but police are -- at this point -- only educating businesses that may be in violation of the health order and not physically forcing any shutdowns.San Nicolas is holding a rally in Ramona Tuesday night in hopes of getting the word out that small businesses, including gyms like his, are still trying desperately to survive -- even if, in some cases, it means facing charges to stay open. 1526

April Simpkins is a healthy 29-year-old. Simpkins said she felt helpless watching as the pandemic spread around the world, until she heard about 1 Day Sooner while listening to a podcast. 1 Day Sooner is an organization that advocates for volunteers willing to participate in a human challenge trial. The trial means being infected with COVID-19 in hopes of speeding up the process for a vaccine. The trial is restricted to young and healthy people. So far, there is no plan for any human challenge trials to fight COVID-19, but over 30,000 thousand people, from over 140 countries, have signed up to volunteer. The hope is to have the list of volunteers ready, if and when such a trial is approved. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Another child has been diagnosed with E. Coli linked to animals at the San Diego County Fair, San Diego Health and Human Services officials reported Tuesday. The latest case involves a 6-year-old boy who visited animals at the fair on June 22, officials said. The boy began showing symptoms of Shiga-toxin-producing E. Coli (STEC) four days later. He was not hospitalized. 2-year-old Jedediah Cabezuela died of the illness and three other children were sickened by E. Coli, fair organizers said Friday.RELATED: Family mourns toddler dead after E. Coli. “As we continue our investigation, more cases are likely to be reported,” said Wilma J. Wooten, M.D., M.P.H, County public health officer. “This is typical of any public health investigation. Since we asked doctors to be on the lookout for STEC, they are more likely to test patients exhibiting symptoms.” E. Coli can incubate over a period of 10 days. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - City Council leaders voted 5-3 to oppose President Donald Trump's executive order to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.The resolution, introduced by Concilmember Georgette Gomez, joins several other cities and states who have also stated their opposition."The border wall is a huge mistake for our region economically and environmentally. I am happy the City Council voted to pass my resolution. Our tax dollars should be spent uplifting the quality of life for all San Diegans, and tackling our issues on road infrastructure, housing, and homelessness," Gomez said following the vote.
