You're not as excited as Ronan Christian.“I'm really, really, really, really, really, really, happy that I'll be able to see another movie, correctly,” said the 12-year-old from Lancaster. Ronan is legally blind. He's also pumped to see Solo, clearly and without constant explanations.“It's been blurry and I would have to have my brother or my dad tell me what's going on,” said Christian.It's hard to miss his Star-Wars-like contraption on his face. It's called eSight. There are screens that show a picture that Ronan can adjust from a controller in his pocket.    While seeing a movie is huge for the 12 year old, it’s the simple things that made the biggest impression on him. “I could finally see my family,” said Christian.Ronan watched Solo at Dipson Flix in Lancaster. ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) – Police in Escondido have identified the suspect shot and killed by an officer at Valley View Casino Saturday night as Osbaldo Ramirez Jimenez, 50.The incident began after police received a domestic disturbance call on the 1400 block of Timber Glen Road in Escondido.When they arrived, police say the suspect got into a vehicle and led them on a chase that ended at the casino’s valet entrance.RELATED: Officer-involved shooting reported at Valley View Casino in North San Diego County?When Jimenez got out of the vehicle, police say they noticed he was holding a handgun when the officer-involved shooting took place. Jimenez was taken to the hospital where he later died. Authorities also identified the officer involved in the shooting as Officer Terrence Pizzuti, who they say has been with the department since 2013.The incident reportedly caused chaos inside the casino. One woman inside at the time of the shooting was trampled. She was taken to the hospital where she is expected to survive.The San Diego Sheriff’s Department is leading the investigation. And as the trend continues, Hawthorne Country Store in Escondido has seen a resurgence in homesteading."Homesteading is a little bit like the original McGuyvering," says managing partner Heather Thelen.She says it's a lifestyle about being self-sufficient when it comes to food and agriculture."Anything from gardening, food collection, hunting, preserving cheese, and using animals for food or for other uses," Thelen said.And because of the current pandemic, everything from chickens to pickling has become very common and popular. "To think that this is something we've been reminded about with COVID. When our supply chains got interrupted, and there wasn't availability of some of the things like meats or products, we just couldn't get because we couldn't go out," says Thelen.And at Hawthorne Country Store, they are offering and education is homesteading. And how in 2020, living off the land, can be quite simple and fun. "We're doing a few classes online, as well as YouTube videos to help people," Thelen said. "We want people to have access to local help, because the videos and the television shows that are out there, are in the Midwest. FALLBROOK, Calif. (KGTV) — An 8-year-old child was killed Friday after being hit by a vehicle while walking with family in Fallbrook.The child was walking across the entrance to a parking lot on Heald Lane at about 6:30 p.m., when a vehicle turned into the parking lot and struck the child, according to California Highway Patrol.Paramedics arrived rushed the child to Rady Children's Hospital, however, the 8-year-old died on the way to the hospital.Two family members were with the child when the crash occurred. The driver of the vehicle, identified as a 58-year-old woman, remained at the scene.Drugs and alcohol are not suspected to be a factor, CHP said.The child and driver were not immediately identified. 746

ENCINITAS, Calif. (KGTV) — Opening a new small business in the middle of this pandemic is a risky move, but San Diegans are doing it. Candles on Tap in downtown Encinitas is taking the chance."Today is a big, nerve-wracking, exciting day but we are opening to the public," CEO and co-founder Chantel Johnson said. She and CFO and co-founder Marcus Wandell are hopeful about their new venture. "The feature event is the scent bar where you pull up a chair and pour your own blend," said Wandell. Johnson added, "We are a custom scent bar so when people come in, they’re able to hand pour their own soy candles, diffusers, and fragrance sprays and they get to choose from over 90 scents." Wandell says some of his personal favorites in their shop include a scent called "old books" and they also have a "cannabis" smell.The two are well aware of what they’re getting into. "We're opening in the middle of a pandemic and it's a brick and mortar store so what could go wrong, right?" Wandell said jokingly.Yet, they say they see this time as the perfect opportunity. “There's pent up energy and demand to get out and do something as long as it’s safe so we're seizing on that need in the community for folks to find an experience to do with their loved ones and friends,” says Wandell.The pair are not alone. The U.S. Census reports almost 3.3 million business applications have been filed this year which is up 700,000 from this time last year. There were reportedly more than 1.6 million quarterly applications. In California alone, week 43 saw almost 9,000 applications which is a 25% increase from this time last year.“Some of our friends [say we’re] so brave. This is a bold move but everyone's really excited for us,” added Johnson.Candles on Tap is located at 687 S Coast Hwy 101 Unit 155 in Encinitas.
