A former teammate of Colin Kaepernick condemned the NFL's recent embrace of peaceful protest as "half-hearted," calling it "PR for the current business climate."According to former 49ers S Eric Reid, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has not personally called to apologize to Kaepernick despite the league's admission that they were "wrong" not to embrace peaceful protest sooner."What the @NFL is doing is half-hearted at best," Reid tweeted Monday. "@nflcommish has gotten comfortable saying he "was wrong" as if his mere acknowledgement reconciles his admitted wrongdoing. He hasn't even called Colin to apologize, let alone reconcile, proving this is only PR for the current business climate."In 2016, Reid was the first player to kneel beside Kaepernick during the national anthem to demonstrate against systemic racism and police brutality.Kaepernick opted out of his contract with the 49ers following the 2016 season. During one interview with the Bengals, he claimed team owner Mike Brown specifically asked if he would continue kneeling, and when Reid declined to answer, he was not offered a contract. In 2019, he and Kaepernick settled their collusion grievances against the league for an undisclosed amount.Reid was signed by the Carolina Panthers during the 2018 season. A Fort Hood soldier has been identified as the victim of a drowning in a Texas lake over the weekend.Officials say the body of Spc. Francisco Gilberto Hernandezvargas was recovered after a boating incident on Stillhouse Hollow Lake. The lake is a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reservoir on the Lampasas River, southwest of Belton. The 24-year-old, whose home of record is listed as Woodside, New York, entered the army in May 2017 as an automatic rifleman and has been assigned to 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division since December 2017.The Bell County Sheriff's Office was alerted that a male, while riding an inner tube behind a boat, went under water and did not surface on Saturday. This took place in the area of Dana Peak Park on Stillhouse Hollow Lake, according to officials.His body was recovered on Sunday.Hernandezvargas’ awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon and the Army Service Ribbon.“The Black Knight family is heartbroken by the loss of Spc. Francisco Hernandezvargas. Our hearts go out to his family and friends during this difficult time,” said Lt. Col. Neil Armstrong, commander of 1st Bn. 5th Cav. Regt. “Spc. Hernandezvargas served his country honorably both stateside while at Fort Hood and abroad in Korea and Romania and this tragic loss is felt by every member within our formation.”The unit is cooperating with local authorities as this incident is currently under investigation.The drowning marks the fourth death of a Fort Hood soldier in the past few months. A Lake Geneva, Wisconsin family is trying to raise money to bring their teenager home from a trip overseas where he became ill.Nathan Dyer traveled to Morocco with his cousin Ashley Benyamina and her husband Mohammed who is from the North African country. He fell ill on April 15 and is now in a coma receiving care in Paris. The beginning of the trip was great, Ashley and Mohammed said, and Nathan was enjoying everything the country had to offer.“He was in the desert running in the dunes, he was climbing mountains we were playing soccer in the streets,” Mohammed said.Then when the three returned to Marrakesh, Nathan started exhibiting symptoms of what they thought was travelers sickness. Doctors gave him antibiotics and told him he’d be better in three or four days. That didn’t happen, so they made another doctor’s appointment.“The appointment was like at 3 p.m. and at 2 p.m. He said, 'I’m really not feeling well, I think I have to go' and then he collapsed on the floor," Ashley said. Nathan has been in a coma ever since. Nathan had traveler’s insurance which got him transported by air ambulance to Paris for better care. That’s where he remains now.His mother has flown there to be with him. His insurance maxed out at ,000 for the trip from Morocco to Paris.
