SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A San Diego organization is set to hold a job fair in City Heights Thursday, giving young adults an opportunity to find employment. The “CONNECT2Careers Spring Job Fair" will be held on March 29 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Fair @ 44 International Market on 4350 El Cajon Boulevard.The job fair is open to anyone ages 16 to 24. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – An inmate who left a San Diego re-entry facility on Wednesday was apprehended in the North County..California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation officials said 51-year-old Larry Johnson “walked away from the Male Community Re-entry Program (MCRP) facility” on Boston Avenue in Barrio Logan Wednesday night.Staff at the facility learned Johnson’s GPS device “had been tampered with” at around 10:30 p.m. Johnson was last seen in the afternoon on an “approved pass to attend work.”Local law enforcement agencies were notified of Johnson’s disappearance, and CDCR agents fanned out to find him.At around 10:30 a.m. Thursday, CDCR officials said Johnson was taken into custody at a hotel in Carlsbad without incident. He will be transported and rehoused at Richard J Donovan Correctional Facility, officials said.CDCR officials said Johnson was in the midst of a 4-year sentence for one count of attempt to use an ID of another to obtain information, which was his second-strike offense.Johnson had been scheduled to be released to probation in May 2021. 1087

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Alliance San Diego is raising money to help eligible DACA recipients pay their 5 renewal fee by October 5.Only young people whose benefits expire within Sept. 5, 2017, and March 5, 2018, are eligible for the two-year renewal."Some individuals have a month to decide whether they're going to pay for rent or whether they're going to pay for DACA renewal," said Itzel Guillen, a DACA recipient and the Immigration Integration Manager at Alliance San Diego.Dreamers who want to take advantage of the assistance must attend an upcoming workshop.Anyone who wants to donate can make a tax-deductible donation through the organization's website. 668

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A staph infection led to the amputation of a 3-year-old boy's legs weeks after his family arrived in San Diego for a vacation.The Baumkirschners and some friends arrived in their RVs from Arizona in early October and immediately set up camp along Mission Bay.3-year-old Beauden and his two older sisters were part of a group that went for a ride on their bikes."He fell off his bike and scratched his knee. We put on antibacterial spray with a band-aid, and off we went," said his father Brian Baumkirschner.Baumkirschner says Beauden spent the next few hours riding bikes, running around, and at one point, playing in the dirt. Early in the evening, Beauden told him he wasn't feeling well."He said, 'My tummy hurts. Is it bedtime?'" said Baumkirschner.The next morning, Beauden woke up with a fever and eventually started favoring his right leg, where he had a scrape just under his knee. When he became lethargic the next day, his parents rushed him to urgent care, and then Rady Children's Hospital. Brian says his son's right knee was swelling up and turned purple."It started spreading up, his legs, down his leg, in his arms, and down to this hands," said Baumkirschner.Baumkirschner says doctors eventually diagnosed Beauden with a MSSA staph infection. Another type of staph infection, MRSA, is more associated with bacteria in the bloodstream."They kept telling us that there was swelling. All of his extremities are shutting down," said Baumkirschner.Beauden had developed a complication: toxic shock syndrome. His little body started to shut down. Beauden developed sepsis. His kidneys started to fail."It's been every parent’s worst nightmare. You can’t do anything. You’re helpless," said Baumkirschner.There were several leg surgeries to relieve the pressure. Baumkirschner says there were some harrowing days, but his son pulled through. On Monday, doctors had to amputate his legs below the knee.Baumkirschner says he's just grateful is son is alive. He's optimistic Beauden's arms and hands can be saved.Baumkirschner says doctors at Rady Children's Hospital told him similar serious staph infections are rare, and they only a see a few cases every year.Doctors also couldn't pinpoint exactly when or where Beauden contracted the staph bacteria.A Gofundme campaign has been set up to help with the family with expenses. 2365

Five months later, the entrepreneurs say they are thriving, thanks to their expansion into a chicken coop.Starting a business takes guts. Starting a business during a global pandemic is extremely risky."We built our business around the idea of lockdown and quarantine," IvyMay & Co. co-owner Cody Warden said.RELATED: San Diego couple launches new business during COVID-19 pandemicWarden and girlfriend, Tammy Nguyen, thought if people cannot be outside, they would bring the outdoors to them. That inspired the creation of IvyMay & Co., an online houseplant curating and delivery company.In July, Warden was newly jobless, and Nguyen was working her corporate PR job when they started the company. Since then, Nguyen quit her job, and their business blossomed. They went from having twenty deliveries to now more than 120 in a week. They hired more staff and outgrew their space almost immediately."We needed to figure out a spatial solution so that we can continue to grow," Nguyen said.Their solution was Warden's father's backyard in Encinitas, specifically their chicken coop. Warden and his father renovated the 300 square foot space to have a greenhouse and an office. It is not your typical warehouse, but they say it is perfect."It's like working with what you have and being able to pivot and do whatever it takes to take your business to the next step," Nguyen said.They say it is this kind of ingenuity, a loving family, and loyal customers that keep them focused. Whether they expand to delivery to other counties or build a storefront, only time will tell. But pandemic or not, they plan to stick around."We may not know where we're going to be in six months, but I can guarantee you that we will be around for you to talk to us in six months.
