EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - Have you ever asked yourself what goes into a guitar? One of the biggest manufacturers in the world runs operations from El Cajon. As part of our 10News “Life in El Cajon” series, we take you inside the music powerhouse that is Taylor Guitars.Seven-hundred guitars a day are pumped out between the manufacturing plant in El Cajon and Tecate, Mexico. From its distribution center in Amsterdam, guitars go to all corners of the world. While guitars are sent to remote areas, they're also in the hands of music's most well known stars, from Taylor Swift, Prince, and George Straight, to Alan Jackson, David Matthews and Ben Harper, the list goes on.Chris Wellons, the VP of Manufacturing talks about the company's mission. First, at Taylor Guitars there's an emphasis on finding your fit. That means physical fit and musical fit. A guitar should be comfortable, and its sound should complement your playing style. Wellons says the company is a leader in sustainability. For every Koa tree they cut down in Hawaii, they plant three behind it.Success has followed Taylor Guitars. It's bringing in 5 million a year. How? EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - A Little League in El Cajon reeling from COVID-related hardship was targeted in a weekend theft."It's horrible. I don't now how someone could steal from a little league ... It was gut-wrenching," said Erik Weichelt, President of the Fletcher Hills Little League."Just devastating for the league," said Weichelt's son Gage, 12, who plays in the league.Discovered on Saturday: a damaged fence, gate shoved open, and a locked batting cage that was broken into. A bevy of equipment was stolen, including a riding mower, a pitching machine, two custom hitting mats, two sets of catcher's gear, three catcher's mitts and hundreds of baseballs."To steal from the kids just doesn't make sense," said Weichelt.The total loss was about ,000."What a troubling year for this to happen," said Weichelt.So far this year, COVID-19 health orders have canceled the team's main fundraiser, along with limiting all activities to practices and no games. In the concession area, there is ,500 worth of food which will likely go unsold."No revenue has come in. We're losing money because fees are still there. The cost of lights and maintenance isn't going away," said Weichelt.Their financial dilemma is now a bigger issue because of the theft. The loss of the equipment will limit the activities the kids are able to do, during a time when baseball, for many, has become a lifeline."No pitching machine means we can't hit. No lawn mower, no grass to play on. Right now, baseball is like an important sport for kid to get outside and play, and now we can't," said Gage.The league is insured, but it's unclear if the theft and vandalism will be covered.A Gofundme campaign has been set up to help the league with the cost of replacing the stolen items. 1768
DoorDash customers can now order groceries through its app.The company announced that they have partnered up with several grocery stores in select cities across the country to limit people's trip to stores due to COVID-19.Customers will be able to purchase from stores like Smart & Final, Meijer, and Fresh Thyme.In the coming weeks, the company will partner up with Hy-Vee and Gristedes/D'agostino."DoorDash provides another convenient way for customers to get the value, selection, and quality that Smart & Final offers, especially at a time when some are looking to limit trips outside their homes," said Navin Cotton, Director of Digital Commerce, Smart & Final in the press release. "DoorDash's on-demand grocery service is a nice addition to our online shopping options, and with delivery in under an hour, we know Smart & Final customers are going to appreciate it."DoorDash will also deliver prepared meals from partnering grocers like Wegmans, Hy-Vee, and others.There is a delivery fee of .99 for each grocery order. (KGTV) – Two people died after being struck by an oncoming vehicle along I-8 Sunday morning.According to the California Highway Patrol, a single vehicle was involved in a crash on I-8 near El Cajon Boulevard just before 1:30 a.m.Following the crash two good Samaritans stopped to help the man out of his vehicle.While the crash victim and one of the good Samaritans were talking on the side of the road, another vehicle failed to see them, striking and killing both victims, according to CHP. Authorities say the investigation is ongoing but haven’t ruled out drugs or alcohol being factors in the crash. 634
