Coli during visits to the San Diego County Fair this summer have filed claims against the company that operates the fair.Attorneys representing the families of Jedidiah King Cabezuela, Cristiano Lopez, and Ryan Sadrabadi filed legal documents on Monday."Our investigation has already turned enough information for us to determine that these illnesses were entirely preventable," said Ron Simon, one of the attorneys representing the families.County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency confirmed 11 cases of E. Coli, all of which involve children ranging in age from two to 13. The outbreak was traced to children that visited the animal areas or the petting zoo, or had other animal contact at the fair, county health officials previously reported, and that the illnesses had no link to any food facilities the children accessed.2-year-old Jedidiah King Cabezuela, from National City, suffered stomach problems four days after visiting the fair on June 15 despite washing his hands following a stop at the petting zoo, a family member told 10News. E. Coli can incubate over a period of 10 days.Over the next three days, Jedidiah was in and out of the emergency room before the symptoms worsened. His kidneys began failing, and he died from Shiga-toxin-producing E. Coli June 24.On June 28, fair officials closed public access to all animal areas at the livestock barn on the eastern side of the Del Mar Fairgrounds."The Cabezuelas, the Lopez's, and the Sadrabadis took their families to the fair expecting to have a good time," said Ben Coughlan of Gomez Trial Attorneys. "No family should have to be concerned about their children getting sick, or worse, at a Fair geared towards attracting families and children."Officials with the 22nd District Agricultural Association, the company that runs the fair, said they anticipate the animal exhibit to return with more safeguards and policies next season. Personnel currently reminds guests to wash hands before and after the exhibits and requires guests leave strollers out of walkways between animal pens, the fair said.While most people who contract the E. Coli bacteria do not develop severe complications, roughly 5 to 10% of those who do can develop a potentially life-threatening kidney infection. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The former head of the Poway Unified School District appeared in court Monday for a preliminary hearing on five felony charges.Officials charged John Collins with misappropriating and misuse of public money.The complaint accuses Collins of misappropriation of public money dealing with vacation time and sick leave. Poway Unified fired Collins in 2017 after a scathing audit had alleged he received more than 0,000 in overpayments and unauthorized payments.The audit also claims there were an additional ,000 in other transactions that violated district policy and some questionable purchases for airline tickets, dinners and hotel fees.Collins attorney did not respond to 10News request for a comment, but in the past, Collins denied engaging in conduct that was dishonest.If convicted on all charges, Collins could face more than seven years behind bars. 894

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The man suspected of opening fire on U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents at the border Monday has been named.San Diego Police say 23-year-old Travis James Eckstein, a U.S. citizen, was shot and killed during a shootout with CBP officers Monday at the San Ysidro Port of Entry. Eckstein was driving from Mexico into the U.S. and refused to stop for officers. Officers say Eckstein tried to drive through an inspection area, before a vehicle blocked his exit.He then began to fire on officers before he exited his vehicle continued shooting. Officers returned fire and struck Eckstein.RELATED: Suspected gunman killed in shootout at San Ysidro Port of Entry identified as US citizen10News spoke exclusively with a man who witnessed and recorded the gun battle on his cell phone. He said he was driving back home to Chula Vista from Mexico on Monday evening. Moments after he cleared customs, he said he saw a white truck blaze past him. He immediately saw CBP agents throw out spike strips on the ground and the driver of the truck crash into another vehicle. Seconds after two separate shootouts, our viewer saw agents dragging Eckstein onto the sidewalk. Meanwhile, other officers were pointing their guns at the bullet-ridden truck, addressing the passengers. Two male Chinese nationals, ages 18 and 27, were found in the rear of Eckstein's truck and were interviewed and released to CBP officials.First responders attempted life-saving measures on Eckstein, but he did not survive his injuries.Seven CBP officers were involved in the shooting but, miraculously, none were injured.“The CBP officers risked their own lives to protect the public from this gunman,” Pete Flores, Director of Field Operations, said in a release. “Human smuggling is always dangerous. He also had many concussions, his Brain didn’t Think like a Normal Person.”Kniss concluded the post with sorrow.“We weren’t okay with the choices Travis had made.
